@hspw714:  My sister is pregnant with twins and has 2 other kids. Her husband didn’t gain weight with any of her pregnancies. I have 3 brothers, 2 of which have kids. One of them got “sympathy fat” and the other didn’t. I think it depends on what the women chooses to eat and how much willpower the man has.

Still early but my husband is having the opposite reaction. He’s lost 20 pounds in 13 weeks!

NO!  He actually got in better shape while I was pregnant.  How DARE he?!?  Hahaha, he would come home from the gym and tell me all about his awesome, super hard workout blah blah blah and I was all like “Oh, cool.  I huffed and puffed my way from the driveway to the front door”.

A little off topic, but a good friend of mine was pregnant our freshman year of college. I gained that weight with her! She was always pushing more food on any of us who ate with her so she “wouldn’t feel bad”. We all tried to tell her she was eating for two, we were not. But pieces of cake, scoops of ice cream, extra fries would all magically appear on our lunch trays. I don’t think I ever lost the weight. She of course did and looked better than ever! Granted she gained around 60 lbs, and I think me and another close friend gained 15-20, could have just been the “freshman fifteen” but we all always joke it was her pregnancy weight so I can definitely see this happening with DH as well.

Yes, at first he did but he has since lost it all and then some (while I’m still gaining away! Wink).  I think he said he put on about 10 extra lbs.

I had mega cravings my first trimester and he’s one to eat if food’s just sitting there or when I bring home/out treats.  Since I was buying more of that junk, he was eating more of that junk too.

But of course, he’s lost it all in the last month now that he’s back to school (he’s a teacher)…and without any effort I might add.  Those damn boys…. Tongue Out

@DaneLady:  Haha!

YES. Before getting pregnant I was mostly vegan and ate a lot of vegetables and salads, and rarely bought snack foods. Now I talk my husband into eating burritos with me multiple times a week, get donuts for us on the weekends, buy all kinds of sugary juices (so. good!), chips and ice cream.

I gained about 5 pounds in the first trimester, and he’s gained like… 10. Ruh roh. We’ve got a long 27 weeks left…

Sometimes I think it’s physically impossible for my tall, slim, athletic build hubby to gain weight. He hasn’t gained any so far (I’m 20.5 weeks) and I don’t expect him to.

I didn’t think this was a real thing until I saw one of our fittest friends put on sympathy weight when his wife got pregnant. We went a few months without seeing him and then I was like WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU? He lost it pretty fast, but it was still a surprise.

Oh my gosh, yes. My husband has totally gained with me this whole pregnancy. Unfortunately for him, at least mine is composed primarily of baby and fluid whereas his is, well, just him. The problem is that we typically eat the same thing (e.g. if I buy ice cream for myself, he’ll eat it too).
