My wife's cats both have last names on their collars... hers of course.
When we got married, one of the cats got her last name changed to mine (coincidentally, the one that sleeps with me). But the collar of the other one still has her old name.
I urged my wife to keep her last name when we got married (she did change her name anyway, so it would match our kids' names), so obviously this isn't a point of contention in the Bee household.
But it got me wondering: do anyone else's pets have last names? And if so, did you (or will you) change their names on their collars when you got married?
LOL!!! Awesome thread Mr Bee! We've actually joked around about our cats changing names, so I guess yes?! Our cats don't have collars or tags, but theoretically since I'm in the midst of changing my name (I hate being in name limbo, it's so confusing!), so are the cats ;)
Yeh, we don't put last names on the collars, but they all took his name after the wedding. LOL I even give my pets middle names and nicknames. I'm cool like that. :)
@farmgirl2106: Wow, middle names! That never even occurred to me... you are indeed cool!
This made me LOL. Our vet actually calls our pets PetName OurLastName. So I guess, yes, we'll change her name as well :D
My dogs name is a full name. Ok that sounds weird, but her name is Halle Peno. (Jalapeno) but she goes by just her first name Halle.
I guess for the vets sake, she has taken his last name as thats what the bill says! :)
@farmgirl2106: My cats have like 6000 nicknames.
Peter Pan = Peter, Pooh, Poohbear, Petiemon (that was when he was a kitten and he was a holy terror: Peter Monster), Snuggle-Up-A-Puss, Monkey.
Glory Be Hallelujah = Glory, Glory Bee, Bee, Little, "Oh my god what are you doing?!", "STOP THAT!!!!", Monkey, Baby Girl.
Smee (who just passed) = Schmee, Mr Smee, Smeegle, Schmoo.
Oh and each of my cats also have personalized songs. I'm still working on Glory's though ;)
We won't be getting a pet until after we're married, but we'll hyphenate future doggie's name (we are keeping our respective last names after marriage).
I love pets with ridiculously long names, though. My family got a dog from my best friend when she couldn't keep him and he now has both our last names.
Ha, this is funny! Our pup has his last name, and actually always has. She apparently has to have a last name for rabies vaccine registration and vet records.
My parents' dog has a middle name for AKC registration, I think that's funny! But I get it since there could be a million Buddy or Princess Smiths.
Only place our pets have last names is at the vet and it's based on the owner's last name. Also, being indoor animals only, they don't have collars.
First time I printed our dog's last name was a few days ago when doing our holiday photo cards. lol
Our dog has a first name, middle name, my last name-his lastname.
We got her before we are married so it's going to stay that way. Her middle name was the name the shelter and previous onwers had but we changed because it did not fit her at all.
My kitties don't have collars, but at the vet, they're all listed under my last name. Really, though, I tell my BF that my cat, the one I've had since high school, is Snowflake MyLastName, and he'll change his name when we get married and he's officially adopted. On the other hand, I tell him that the other cat, the one we adopted together a few months ago, is Penelope HisLastName. Then we have Chairman Meow StillHasNoLastName; he's the stray who is currently living with us - but we hope to find him a home soon.
@bakerella: Hilarious!! I put their names into songs so we sort of have that too! Eevy's, my papipoo, is "Good Morning" from "Singin' in the Rain" and Jetta's is "Sisters" from I think, "White Christmas"? We also use the Winnie the Pooh song quite a bit. :)
Eevelyn Jones M-
Jetta Lynn M-
Paco "Pacman Jones" M-
Mauser M- (he's new so no middle name or song quite yet! :))
Haha, we adopted Toby from a second chance shelter, and we did put FI's last name on the papers!
We adopted our cat together, but officially she already has FI's last name. Her original name was Lola but that didn't fit her at all so we renamed her Banshee. Fits her to a "T" or "B", haha. However, she thinks that she is too awesome for just one last name, and so she has about a million nicknames and songs that we've made up for her. Her songs mainly consist of pop, holiday, and Spongebob songs, as well as original songs. (& here I was thinking we were the only ones!)
@GreenEyedMoon: We call her Chairman or Empress Meow sometimes, lol.
@farmgirl2106: Uhm mine have original songs. No covers. Yes. I'm THAT cool. LOL!
LOL. We're not even married yet, and my dog has his last name. Mostly because it's hilarious.
My dog's name is Dilly. His last name is Dallo.
Say it out loud: Dilly Dallo
It's really funny to us.
:-)
The cat has his last name. (The cat was found by him and an ex, so good for him for getting the last name in there.)
When we get a dog, we want to name it Fidolomew Oswald Meaty HisLastName. I actually asked him last night why all the pets get HIS name and that I wanted to name one with MY last name. Serious business in our household.
@bakerella: Haha, I'm not nearly creative enough! Not with music... I'm impressed!!
@quidditchqueen: ...Then obviously your Empress Meow and my Chairman Meow are soul mates! You should adopt him! Do you live anywhere near Dallas, by any chance? :-D
It was funny, at my vet my dog was listed with my last name, but they asked for names from both "parents" HAHA, so my hubby (then bf) was listed on the records. On my dog's collar, though, we just had his first name. He actually died the day after we got engaged, so we never actually had the chance to change his last name.
This makes me laugh! We got our dog when we were engaged so i gave him his last name. He is Triscuit Snugglebite Howard. Snuggle Bite because he loves to cuddle and wrestle so if he is cuddling too long he will start to bite at you to get you to play with him! He is a 102 lbs Great Pyrenees and still growing!
Mr. Bee, thank you for reminding me! I finally changed my name legally (hyphenated) after six months and now going through all the credit cards, insurance policies etc. Now I need to add vet records to that list. Of course the cats' last names will be hyphenated too.
Our dogs don't have last names.... but apparently at the Vet they are in the system with last names. When they were sick (separate times) he had taken one and I had taken the other. So our twin Corgi's have different last names.
Our cat still has my last name, since I had him for three years before I met my husband. Our dog, which we adopted while we were engaged, has our married last name. I guess we're a blended family? :)
Our cat has DF's last name, because I will be taking his last name when we get married and I didn't want the hassle of changing her name - our vet refers to the animals by first and last name.
We joke and say that if we ever split up, we are going to have to have 50-50 custody and it will stress the cat out too much for us to move her from one house to another so we will have to keep living together... and we might as well stay together for the cat, lol.
hahahaha. I brought a dog & cat into the relationship, and I don't think I've ever referred to them having a last name except at the vet.
FI does refer to himself as "daddy" when talking to them/about them though, which I think is super adorable. (And even more adorable in the fact that he didn't really love my dog out of the gate. It took some time before he really bonded with her)And FFIL is "grandpa". :)
Elvis (cat, male): El (L?), buddy, muffin, move it stupid!
Molly (dog, female): Mollsafina, Molly-kins, Mollster, Monster, Sweetie, Muffin, Babydoll, Darling, Moll.
so funny! we call our pets firstname mylastname-hislastame when we're joking around or when they're in trouble.
i was actually thinking about this though because i always use my last name for them at the vet/boarders/groomers etc (because i always make the appointments), but it won't be my last name for much longer. i have a feeling i won't bother to change my name at the vet, so they'll be stuck with my last name!
The lab i have is actually my Nieces so it doesn't even have my last name. I hadn't really thought about changing her last name. I joke about not changing mine, and he usually does not find that funny. So his cat and i will all have his last name. hmmm maybe ... first name middle name (yes middle name) nieces last name his lastname...... four names for a dog lol.
Well our cat has her own last name. Sometimes we refer to her as Lucy Da Cat. So we always say her last name is Dacat. Haha. I've actually signed up for a few things on the internet as Lucy Dacat. It's funny when I log into my spam email acct or something and I see Hi Lucy! Haha
Our cat has his last name, but we're not engaged yet...
@Entangled: I love pets with ridiculously long names as well! Our kitten's name was Leonardo di ser Pierro Hislastname, or Leo for short :)
Current pets are hyphenating mylastname-hislastname (they all have full names). Going forward any new pets will just be his last name because I'm taking his name.
My dog will be taking fiance's last name...because she is going to be getting married to his dog on the same day we get married. They aren't brother and sister, they're boyfriend and girlfriend.
♥Bishop ♥ Noodles 4Ever♥
Our corgi chose to hyphenate - she is Eva (the Diva) MyLastName-HisLastName
I only refer to them with my husband's last name when they are in trouble! Lol. Otherwise, if I'm playing around, I'll refer to them with my maiden name.
But there is no official document stating their last name...lol.
After my divorce we time shared our pet dogs and the first time I took one to the vet and I read on the paperwork the name of my ex new wife I flipped out. I dont know if it was the stress of Mister Jazz illness, delayed reaction to the divorce but I so went ballistic. "That is not his pet mommy's name. He is MY dog rant rant rant and tears. Not my finest hour- and I think the vet wished he could prescirbe valium to humans.
We don't ever call our pets by a last name, but we're not married yet, and since I'm the one who always takes the dogs to the vet, their prescriptions and vet write-ups have my last name. Honestly, this is the first time I've ever really thought about it--I guess after I change my name and my credit card has his last name on it, the dogs' names will change too?
