Keep yourself occupied. I find myself eating random snacks when I am bored. You could also chew sugar free gum if you just want to taste something.
Chromium supplements can help keep your blood sugar level even while you get off the carbs. Also, making sure you get a high protein breakfast and eating 4-6 small meals a day instead of 3 big meals. Brushing your teeth 3 times a day is a deterrent. Drink a ton of water as that helps flush toxins and makes you feel full. Sometimes thirst can be disguised as hunger.
ETA: I would avoid artificial sweeteners as they trigger your insulin the same as sugar. Use stevia or erythritol instead.
Cut things out slowly. It's really hard to just diet and, frankly, not set up for long term success. Make changes you can live with: for instance, I cut out soda a long time ago, and have never gone back. I also don't eat meat, which helps with most fast food type places.
After cutting out your problem areas, think about what you need to add: fresh fruits and veggies in every meal, balanced nutrients - please don't just go low carb! Carbohydrates are good for you, as long as they're the right ones and balanced with protein.
Steer away from artificial sweeteners and overly sugary or salty foods.
I totally second everything lilyfaith said.
I should add... I eat really all week and then on weigh-in day after weigh-in, I splurge on whatever I want. Guess what: you can't add back on all the weight you've lost for the week, and usually it's so bad and you feel so good from eating good food that you eat pretty healthy anyways.
I still get the bite of candy or pizza while at a friends' while watching the game, but I definitely have lost 14 lbs in the last month, too! :) and it feels AMAZING!
Thanks girls! This will def help me!
WOW cinemaparadiso 14LBS in the past month is great! What are you doing? Any special diet?
Haha girls... I just eat often! I eat a Special K bar or light wheat toast w/light cream cheese for breakfast, for lunch a turkey sandwich w/ fat free cheese, lettuce, onion, tomato and honey dijon mustard on light bread with a 100 cal pack of chex mix stuff, an apple for snack or some carrots (thats usually morning snack) and a cheese stick for afternoon snack, and then dinner is usually chock full of veggies so I eat more veggies than carbs or protein. Oh, and I drink water like a mad woman.
I couldn't eat like that 24/7 though. That's why my splurge day has kept me sane. And reminding myself that I'm human, of course.
My sis and fiance are on the same diet and both have lost around 12 lbs, and they're much thinner than I am, so I know it has to be the fact that we're just eating less calories and eating the right things.
Chiming in on this one too.. .@cinemaparadiso - 14lbs, one month??? do you have a lot of weight to loose?
I have 10 more lbs i want to loose for my jan 2 wedding.
@soon2b - i'm doing the same thing as you are w/ cutting the carbs. Last week i started only carbs for breakfast, man was it HARD, not gonna lie. I feel like i got through 3 days and that was the worst of it. Also it made me REALLY think about what i was putting in my mouth and how many unnecessary carbs I was eating. What helped me too is I put a sign on the fridge door it says "SMALL PORTIONS, EAT HEALTHY, GO WORKOUT.... NO EXCUSES!!" Also with some pics of some motivating fit ladies. Not sure if that would help you or not? We have a thread going in the wellness section, a bunch of gals are a part of it and we check in weekly and mid weekly at least with eachother to stay motivated. Jump on in with us :)
@sunnygal yeah, i'm plus sized so I am losing weight fast, but my sis and fiance are normal size (my sis is an 8 and my fi is a guys size M) and they're losing weight almost as fast. I really think it's just because we're all too busy to eat much more than the little that we eat during the day, and our meals are portioned correctly. We ate a lot more fast food before, so I think the jumpstart of healthy food has made a huge difference in how fast we're losing. It came off quickly in the beginning and now is slowing down a bit, but i'm ramping up my exercise!
I'm really motivated by how much fiftyfootbride has lost... I know I can do it too, so it's finally kicked my butt into gear. I just read your other post... Good luck this week! I know I haven't been checking in, but I'm still with you all in spirit and am trying really hard myself!!!
Oh I feel your pain Soon2bMW! I'm the type that eats just because I have nothing better to do, LOL. The only thing that's helped me control my crazy eating habits is eating foods rich in fiber and having protien shakes.
Also, don't cut all your carbs out, it'll drive you crazy.
Diets don't work! They work temporarily, but in the long run... what weight is lost will always come back on! You need a healthy balanced diet, that includes treats- in moderation.
I couldn't go the no-carb route. I have before & I cried and cried... I was clutsy, I was overly emotional, I didn't have a rational thought in my head. I literally lost my mind! Also, after about 3 days w/o carbs I got ravenous & ate everything in sight.
Definitely up your exercise, up your water (I'm talking 3-4L a day) and keep your starches for the morning. Keep dinner to a protein & good carbs (found in vegetables).
You can do it!! :)
My FH was a genetics major in college and he seriously HATES when anyone talks about cutting all carbs out of their diet. He is constantly reminding me that carbs are litterally the energy that your body lives off of. If you suddenly take all carbs out of your diet, your body pretty much goes into shock, which in turn slows down your motabolism. I think that moderation and being contious about what you are eating is the best way to go.

SO im determined to start my diet tommrow. Cutting all carbs, at least bad carbs out. Mainly protein and vegies. Im not only doing this for the wedding im doing this for me because i need to loose some weight because i have pcos and we want to start trying to have a baby and weight effects it. Sooo lol
Here it is... im searching through the kitchen. Eating, candy, pumpkin pie, crab cake...omg everything... Im like on freak out mode. So stupid! UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I think im going to brush my teeth and go to bed. Any suggestions on how to get carb cravings out and stop freaking out and think healthy?
