If you attend both, you give presents for both.  Typically, one spends a bit less on a shower gift, but if its a close friend or family member, I spend about the same amount.  I typically buy gifts off of the registry for these gifts.  I you also attend a bachelorette party, a gift for this would be something different such as lingerie.

As far as I know… it’s 2 different gifts. Usually the shower gift is smaller. A lot of the time it’s things for your kitchen, bath stuff, etc… The last shower I was at, the bride got a lot of tea towels, small kitchen utensils, bubble bath.

Wedding gift is usually bigger – small appliance (crockpot, blender, etc…). Lately I’ve seen a lot of neat gifts like camping equipment.

They are two separate gifts. There is no hard and fast rule that you have to spend more on the wedding gift than on the shower gift, though. Spend whatever you’re comfortable with.

I don’t think it’s a rule, but I usually spend a bit less on a shower gift! Usually $50-75 when I spend $150-200 on a wedding gift!
