I am just wondering, because one of my BM’s went and ordered her dress last night. I told the girls, as long as it is satin and in DB’s Plum, it didnt matter the style, wear what you are comfortable in.
So last night she sends me a picture of her in a plum dress from DB, and it looks okay in the cell phone picture, but I can’t really tell which dress it is (is it bad that I have most of the DB BM dresses memorized?) so I asked her to send me the style number. She did and it said it’s a taffeta dress.
original dress on left / the dress she said shes getting on the right.
Isn’t taffeta a stiffer and… I want to say coarser dress? Where satin is kind of shiny and soft-ish?
Will it make a difference in pictures?
Why can’t people follow directions?

@misskarianne: LOL you are not the only one that has DB dresses memorized!
Yes I did think taffeta is stiffer and coarser than satin, however I have come across some taffeta dresses that seems to have more of a silk feel to it and it didnt make that crunchy noise when I walked in it (yes I modeled a BM dress for my BM). However this dress wasn’t at DB. You may have to see it in person. Also, hopefully, with the darker plum color, maybe no one can tell but with it being different fabrics, I would compare the two.

I was thinking I might have to go to DB today and look for myself. Is it wrong for me to tell them its not going to work if I dont like it?

If you told your BMs their dresses should be Satin, then tell her it needs to be satin. Not sure how this dress looks in the taffeta but yes, taffeta does normally have a shine to it.
Stick to your guns! Just tell her that you told them satin, you went to look at it but the color was too off

Depends on what type of taffeta it is. there are different types of tafetta just like there are different types of satin, some types or satin are glossier and more high sheen than others, some are a bit matte like duchess satin. In the same way some types of taffeta are stiffer and crunchy, and others are soft and silky, like silk taffeta. I think you have to see the dress in person to determine

okay. I am going to go tonight.
When I was first looking online I saw a dress I liked for my sister, but when I went into the store it was like a cotton satin and it looked off so I had to change her dress. I am just afraid that its going to look weird.
Taffeta shine is different than satin shine. I am going to go tonight and double check before I say anything.

they will look different, the problem is, in person, the same color looks different in different fabrics. so, if some of the girls get satin, and she gets taffeta, it may stand out because of the color. i’d ask her to switch. you told her satin.

@AJester2: you would think that when she was trying dresses on they would notice. And on top of that, why would a consultant pull a taffeta dress when they told her satin.
that, of course, is assuming they told her satin and that the consultant is the one who pulled the dress in the first place.
I’m getting really aggrivated with them. Why is getting a dress so difficult?? It is starting to make me regret having them each in something different. Then again its not like I said “go get something purple” I was pretty specific.
what a bummer

Maybe she’s not comfortable in satin. I know I overheat really easily in satin and much prefer taffeta. Have you tried talking to her at all?
And who are you getting really aggrivated with: DB or your bridesmaids? If its the bridesmaids, maybe letting them choose a plum dress in their choice of style regardless of fabric would be okay. They would have a better chance of finding something they like and feel great in. Especially if they are the ones paying for the dress. I would choose something else to be specific about, like the skirt length.

when I first talked to her she didnt say anything about not liking satin. or overheating, or anything else along those lines. She just said “okay!”
aggrivated with just her and her mom (FI step mom). its like a constant struggle to just get them to wear something normal. Im kind of over whatever she wants to wear because I cant really do anything about it, but i want my bridesmaids dresses to be the same color/fabric so they match in that way. length & style dont bother me.
Maybe I will just pick MY favorite and say, nevermind I want you all to match

I called my davids bridal here and explained the situation and they said I could call the TN davids bridal and explain the situation to the manager and maybe they could stop the order???
before I called DB here in LA, I text messaged FI’s step mom and asked her if she realized that the dress was taffeta and all she wrote back was “no idea, its paid for and not refundable” I was a little pissed with that comment and said back “well i hope it looks the same next to satin. other wise ill need to change everything”
I feel like I am going to end up pissing her off by calling the store in TN, but its going to bother me if I don’t change it.
