Websites that talk about Spring and Fall collections are just describing when the collection was released. Most designers release a new collection of dresses twice a year: once in the spring and once in the fall. There shouldn’t be too much difference in the style of the dresses, but the newer collections will be more up to date in terms of current fashions.

I agree with snuggly, but have also noticed that some designers have more flower embellishments and lighter fabrics in their spring colections.

I agree with the above postings and want to add that dresses for certain seasons have design elements that make them more appropriate.  In my experience the fall dress collections will likely be made with heavier fabrics and are designed more for indoor weddings in colder weather.  Spring collections are usually made with lighter fabrics and are more appropriate for outdoor weddings or warmer weather.  But there are always exceptions to this rule in every collection.

I made the mistake of buying a used dress from a fall collection and it was simply too heavy and warm for my spring wedding.
