I think it would look lovely. I can't recall having seen any photos of gals with different coverups, but I've seen lots with different dresses (long sleeves, short sleeves, sleeveless, straps, etc.) and they all look nice.
I would say let all your maids feel comfortable and wear what they want.

Hello Hive,
I am approaching the final decision for my bms attire. I have decided to go the way of Alfred Angelo's Color Mix Seperates.
Many of the top choices are strapless or sleeveless and my wedding is November 1. I have 6 bms and each is selecting her own favorite top and will wear it with a basic A-line skirt. Colors: Expresso and Harvest Gold.
Some girls like shawls. Others hate them and would prefer a shrug or jacket.
Would it look bad to have them in different style coverups? I wanted a bit of each ladies' personality to shine thru thats why I let them choose the tops but i wanted them to still appear fairly consistent so I chose the bottom. I can't seem to find a picture of a group of bms wearing different coverups, and I can't envision the way it would look.
What do you guys think?
Anyone have a pic of bms wearing different coverups?
