Does anyone have pics of using multiple styles of bridesmaid dresses at their wedding? I know this is an increasing trend, and I think I might do it! I'm using black for sure, but I have a large bridal party and they can't all decide on one dress that they like. I'm a bit of a people pleaser, and I feel bad making them pay for something they hate...Smile. So...i'm thinking of taking them all to Nordstrom together and just saying get a black dress. That way I can see them all at the same time and see how they look together...I would love to see pics from anyone that has done something similar. Thanks ladies!!

Mrs Cowboy Boot did something similar. Mrs. Powderpuff even have her maids all wear different colors. Alyssa Milano also did that.

Check out more examples here and here. More black dresses here.

I tried to do this, and here's my tale of caution.... (especially to someone with a large bridal party).

I have 5 bridewomen, 1 jr. brideswoman and a W(oman)OH (feminist much?).  Anyway, 4 of the ladies and the junior live on the west coast.  I wanted 7 different dresses in the same color.  I picked a designer and a color & sent all my ladies some sample styles that I like and some styles that were out of the question.  Told them to try on and let me know their top 2 picks each.  I ended up having 3 of them fall in love with one style, 2 of them in love with another style and the other 2 each liked 2 other totally different dresses.  I really wasn't into doing 1, 1, 2, 3; for some reason I thought that would look more disjointed than 7 different dresses.  For awhile I contemplated different color combinations, but that didn't make anything better for me.  So, eventually, I said F'it and chose 1 dress for 6 of them.  My WOH was one of the ones who liked a totally different dress from everyone, so I let her keep her style.

So just be aware that you may end up having multiple girls who like one style.  If you're cool with that, go for it!

Bleh.  Sometimes being flexible/nice/accommodating ends up causing more trouble than it's worth!  In the end I'm happy with how everyone looks in their dresses, but I was definitely bummed out at first.

I'm doing different styles and colors for each of bridesmaids, but, I am having an Indian wedding so the different styles/colors is very fitting. To avoid looking disjointed each dress will have similar gold embroidery and similar fabrics.

For a cohesive, but individual look for you're bridesmaids you could do the same. For example, have them choose flowy soft fabrics (georgette, chiffon) or something more rigid (satin, taffeta) - whatever fabric will compliment your wedding dress.

    Hi!

I'm having my four BMs and one Groomsmaid all wear different dresses in a deep purple color. We got all but one dress from Nordstrom and the other came from Ebay (was a David's bridal dress). They look great together and everyone's dress cost less than $100. Most of them were on sale or we waited until they went on sale. Another cool thing about Nordstrom is that they honor the online sale prices which aren't always the same in the stores and they'll also obtain dresses from other Nordstrom stores if the size you want isn't at a particular store.

As for who picked what, I picked out eight dresses and then let my MOH pick first and then the rest were first come, first serve. They each have very different tastes (which is what caused me to want them to wear different dresses) and so they actually all picked a different dress. It worked out nicely!

My lovely ladies wore grey dresses of their choosing. Three of the girls wore the same sheath dress from Macys. Two wore different dresses in the same material from J Crew. One was from Target ($26!!) and the last from Ann Taylor. And in my opinion, it looked great! They also wore coordinating shawls from Nimli. They also chose their own shoes and all wore something in black or silver.

Ashley1104, i have your answer! (or at least i hope I do!) I did not want the standard same old same old BM dress that no one will ever wear again. I also did not want everyone looking the same! Long story short, I found this amazing dress and company where the dress transforms to over 15 different styles! I know they are a bit pricey, but all the girls, saw it as an investment (I even bought one for myself!) Please go to their website and look through their collection. Also at the top right corner there is an icon called "Lovely Days" click on that to see real-life pictures that brides have sent in. There is a party wearing the black dress so click on "Krystin:Toronto August 2008" Be sure to also scroll through the other pictures to see all of the different styles!! I can't wait to get the dresses and all the girls are actually excited about the dresses!: http://www.twobirdsbridesmaid.com/main.html

    Hope this helps! Good luck!

I'm only having my two sisters as MOHs and FI has a female bestfriend who will be a Best Woman.  I'm asking them all to wear short black dresses.  I've seen lots of pics like this and I think it works great and makes everyone happy.  My cousin did it and tied the dresses together with a matching green sash.  You could do that too.

Mrs. Avocado did this as well: http://www.weddingbee.com/2009/01/13/that-wedding-me-and-my-maids-manmaid/ I've really enjoyed the pictures of non-matching bridesmaids dresses I've seen - I'd say go for it!

I'm totally doing this, trying to fine one dress that everyone likes does NOT appeal to me in the least bit. I'm giving slight limitations.. all the same color, same designer, same length, but after that it's up to my girls. I'm so happy I don't have to either a.) satisfy them all with one dress or b.) make some of them resent me b/c they HATE the one I chose.

@aliciagray & JeniRae- I love the looks of your different dresses...  I'm kicking myself for not doing shades of the same color.  :)  I fell in love with one specific color & it just didn't work with the 4 styles that my 7 ladies liked.  Le sigh!  Though in the end, I am happy with the choices & with the fact that my WOH is in a totally different style but same color to set her apart from the rest.  :)

    But next time I get married....LOL, I kid, I kid.  ;)

I totally love the idea of different maid dresses in the same color because not everyone can wear the same dress well.  I've seen that done in so many different weddings and they looked so good and still cohesive.  I now even like maids in different shades of the same color The problem I have is I have only 2 girls and it'll be hard to keep them cohesive if they wear different color and shade.
