wedding day photog doesn't have to know you're taking epix, or why you chose another photog for your epix
I think it's perfectly fine. It's definitely your right to determine your photographer... it's your call :) Just make sure that you spend enough time with the wedding day photographer and let he/she know your style, personality, etc... to make sure everything is capture on the big day.
Most phographer throw in FREE engagement photo session along with the wedding day package because they want to get to know the couple in person and through the lense.
I think it's fine, but most of the time engagement pics are thrown into packages together for free or a very discounted price. It's also nice to work with your wedding day photographer so you can all get a feel for what you like and what they're like and figure a few things out. I know that taking our engagement pictures with our photographer was really good to clear up what we liked and what we expected.
I'm using a different photographer for my wedding day and engagement pics. It's no biggie.
I think that's a great idea. Maybe cuz that's what I've decided too! I got engagement photo's as part of the package with my wedding day photographer and they were... lame. So I'm gonna use a different photographer for a more artistic approach. Since the wedding photog was really 'posey'. You'll love the engagement photo's if you use the person whose vision you like.

We used them and loved their style, friendly nature and professionalism. Best value in town from what we found!
We had one photographer for the egagement and another for the boudior and wedding day. It's a long story, but the engagement one was supposed to be the wedding one. In the end we went with my boudior one for the wedding.

do you think it's a bad idea to have a different photographer for my engagement pictures and my wedding day? the photographer that i absolutely love is out of my budget, but since engagement sessions are cheaper, i'm thinking of using him for my engagement photos, and a different photographer that is more within my budget for the wedding day. what do you think? do you think that the wedding day photographer would be offended that he/she wasn't my first choice?
