How many groomsman are you having? Perhaps, if it's an even number, you could just do half with one tie and half with another tie? I think that would look nice. I love purple and gold..such a pretty combo. But I do like that tie in the last photo. I think that would be nice on all of the guys.
@asianyoushi: That's my favorite too! Unfortunately it was the last one :( And it's being discontinued... seems to be the last tie of its kind in existence!
@Kalamaz17: Thanks for your help! Wish they had more ties in that style... only one available : / We're having six groomsmen.
I think you are just fine.
@asianyoushi: Unfortunately I called around and that tie has been discontinued so I'm pretty sure I own the last one.... it was on the clearance rack : / I could return the other ones though and get ties without gray/silver accents in them, just purple/black? Or I was thinking about having the groom wear that striped one and then maybe have the other groomsmen wear solid ties of different shades of purple? Who knew ties could be so complicated!
OMGosh I had such a nightmare with ties! I literally bought and returned $1000 worth of ties to lord and taylor within a 2 month span. They are right down the block from where I work, so i would stop in, buy 10 ties, take them home for FI's approval, then return them when he hated them. We wound up doing 1 pattern for FI, 1 pattern for the best man, matching patterns for the groomsmen and another set of matching ties for the groomsmen.
I digress.
Did the store do a search for other stores in their chain that have the tie? I had lord and taylor do that, and macy's, then just called up the store and ordered them to be sent to me. Also, I found that ties were constantly replenished (could be because I am NYC), so I just kept going back to see if there were more ties in the colors that I needed.
@Ambellina13: Who knew ties could be such trouble?? I called two stores and they took twenty minutes each to search through the ties..... It's a department store so i assumed they could just punch in a number, but I guess not! It was on the clearance rack, so the clerk said it was probably being discontinued... I looked online too, but no luck : /
@vlrmartin27: It was a nightmare! I am sooo happy that it was settled! I would definitely just keep looking for ties that have purple and black, and just be really aware of when the last day to return the ties are.
There are a bunch of purple striped ties here at kohls that are just purple and black and a bunch here that are purple and black patterns
once you start looking for ties, you realize that they are everywhere and most places have a pretty large selection :)
You'll be fine, love. I really love the purple and peach together! The amount of gold that your ladies will be wearing will be relatively small, and the amount of gray in the ties is positively MINISCULE. While I'm not even of the belief that gold and grey clash (isn't yellow and grey, like, the hot new thing in wedding land?) -- you have such a small amount of the color that it's not going to be a thing, other than gorgeous. :-)
@Ambellina13: Thanks for your help!! Actually I REALLY like this one http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/dressapparelmen/ties/striped/PRD~732979/Apt+9+Graphite+Striped+Silk+Tie.jsp - it's pretty similar to the other one, just smaller stripes. Your help is much appreciated!
@village_skeptic: :) Thank you for your words of encouragement! I am not usually this detail-oriented... Just second guessing myself because it is so hard to envision everything together!
@vlrmartin27: no problem! I love finding things for people :)
@vlrmartin27: I'm so glad that it helped! And I totally understand the detail oriented thing. Wedding planning is bringing out my latent OCD, so it's good to be able to help someone else (and therefore maybe get perspective myself).
Also, we are having purple ties too, and I'm totes stalking a few of your ties now. :-)
I had a similar problem. My colors are shades of ivory, gold, and pops of scarlet. I really wanted the men in dark gray suits but I had a hard time picturing the gold and gray together. Its really not nearly as bad as you would think, especially with darker grays.

Hello! So, my fiance and I iike the look of ties without vests for the groomsmen. However, the ties that the rental company offers are too short because they are made to be tucked into vests. So they suggested that we buy the ties for the guys from a department store and give it to them as part of their groomsmen gifts. We thought this was a great idea! Then, when we went to the department store and saw the selection, we had the idea to get the groomsmen each a different pattern tie in similar colors.
Here are the ties we picked out:
And we are having pale peach bridesmaid dresses:
(face not shown because the picture was sent to me by a helpful fellow poster!)
I was thinking that gold would accent the peach color well (shoes, jewelry, etc), so while we were originally going with gray suits for the guys, we changed it to black so that the girls could have gold accents and not clash with gray suits.
However... some of these ties have gray incorporated into them, so would the ties clash with the girls with their gold accents?? (gold watch just used for the sake of comparison)
The gold seems to look better with the tie without gray in it:
Mind you.. the ties were just bought yesterday so they can be returned (to possibly get all ties with just purple/black, no gray?), the guys' suits were ordered in black with ivory shirts but they can also be changed until the end of March, and none of the "gold accents" (bridesmaids' shoes, jewlery) have been purchased yet. So the only thing that's set in stone, really, are the bridesmaids' light peach dresses.
...Thoughts?? Do you like the pale peach/purple/gold/black combo? Should we return the ties and get ones with just purple/black, no gray? And do you like the different pattern idea?
Phew. Thank you for your help!
