I’vegotten some grief from people saying it’s stupid to only have a registry for our honeymoon and savings account for a home. Instead they would rather purchase household items from a store.
we already live together and have most of these things as it is. These household items are simple things that we can upgrade ourselves later in time. Whereas it would be wonderful to have some extra help with these other more expensive and important things.
Should I give in and add another registry for things we don’t even really need?

This is a pretty controversial topic in the hive! What we did (because we are in your shoes) is have a very small physical registry – we did amazon.com. We also had a honeymoon registry and let people know that was our preferred registry. So, only the traditionalists bought off the amazon registry (it was some travel gear, plates, and a couple kitchen appliances). Everyone else did the honeymoon registry. Worked really well!

I throw in my 2 cents – like my mom told me, some people just want to buy you certain things. You can either pick out those things and at least get the color/size/etc you want or not and they will probably go ahead and buy it for you whether or not you actually register for it. So, you might as well do a small one of ‘household items etc’ so you at least get what you like.
Also, advice from my sister-in-law who only did a honeymoon registry (also had everything they needed housewise). A few years later and she regrets that a bit. She wishes they had done more of a 50/50 honeymoon to household items.
That all being said, it is your registry so do with it as you will! 🙂

Find a registry with a really flexible return policy and who has items you actually need or would otherwise purchase.
Also, be careful with which honeymoon registry you select. Many up them charge 8-15%!!
