Hi, I want to start off by saying that I just joined weddingbee and I’m still new to how everything works. Anyways, I’ve been with my fiance for almost 5 years end of March and I got engaged January 4th 2013 (201314 = in chinese it stands for ‘i love you forever’). He got me a 1 carat diamond on plain platinum setting but I’m having a dilemma as to whether it would be a good idea to change the setting before the wedding. I’ve always wanted a side stones on the setting and not a plain band. I know platinum is more expensive than white gold and that’s partially why I’m hesitating to change setting. I also don’t want to hurt my fiance’s feelings but he always said that he doesn’t care if I change. I just want to see what you guys/gals think? Should I change the setting now or change after the wedding or just stay with what he got me? Just want to see what is everybody’s thoughts on this.
*Note: I will be paying for the new setting if I was to change.

If it’s not what you want and your fiance is okay with it, then change it! 🙂

@bcz19: Either ering is beautiful ….. Since you are paying for new setting then go for it… I’m paying to upgrade my center diamond and SO like your guy was ok with this…. My guy already paid for two Ering sets so any changes are on my nickel. In your case you can’t go wrong both rings scream classic elegance

I think your current ring is gorgeous! What about a blingy wedding band instead of replacing your ering? But if you really feel the need to have stones on your ering, I think the second one is beautiful as well.

I prefer platinum over gold, so if you have to give up the platinum, I would not. I would get a blingy eternity band for your wedding band instead. 🙂

@FutureMrsJohnson_: That’s what i was thinking. If you’regoing to take pictures especially ofthe rings then which one would you rather see in a photo album, the one he proposed with our the one you want?

I think you should keep it and get a wedding band with diamonds all around it. Your ring is timeless and beautiful.

Thank you everyone for your responses <3 I think I’ll stay with my classic plain band. Everybody was very helpful =)

I prefer platinum over white gold as well, and I think your solitaire is classic and gorgeous. I’d keep it, and get a diamond band (eternity or 1/2 eternity) to pair with it for more bling. You get the best of both worlds that way! 😀
