One thing I was super excited to do when we moved into our new house was paint the dining room. I had seen tone on tone stripes done before and I really liked how subtle/classy they looked, and our dining room seemed the perfect place to try it out.

Long story short.... I'm not entirely sure that this was actually worth the work. I like the results... but I'm not sure the stripes are obvious enough. Full story and DIY steps are here, but here is the before/after for your viewing pleasure. Yay for being done with painting for a looong time! :)

Also... any tips on what to hang on the walls? I am really bad at deciding how to decorate!

Wow, those stripes must have taken a lot of work!  I helped my sister do one wall in her bedroom and I remember it taking forever.  The color is great too, it really looks awesome with the furniture.

It is! We weren't even going to get a dining room table bc it wasn't a priority for me and then I saw this and it was all over!! Here is a close-up of it:

@Corgitales - Ahhh I love that table! At our Ashley, they also have a smaller, bar-height version of it that FI and I LOVE. We don't have room for a table that big right now, so we're thinking about getting the smaller one after the wedding!

wow! That looks fabulous--like something out of HGTV! I am super impressed with how straight your stripes are, esp since I can barely cut paper on a straight line!

I really like that color a lot! And I think the stripes have just the right amount of contrast. They are not too defined, but you can see that they're there :)

Oh wow, your stripes look great! If painting wasn't so much effort, I would totally paint my apartment.

We have totally been planning to do matte/gloss stripes in our master bedroom in a grey colour - your dining room turned out great, and I am totally inspired to get on our bedroom!

We have seen it a few times on design shows - and my uncle is a painter, he said the key is to make sure the walls are super clean first, he suggests wiping them with alcohol before the base coat to avoid paint stripping during the un-taping, and to wait as long as possible between the base and stripes (so our plan is to do the base coat one weekend, and the stripes the second weekend).

It looks worth it to me! The solid before picture wasn't nearly as good looking as the final product! Great job... and even reading the play by play, I'm still contemplating the idea :-)

Its gorgeous, if you are going to hang anything on the walls. I suggest anything with a White frame, not too much.

White goes absolutely fantastic with the color you have chosen.

Looks great, I wish we could decorate but we are in a rental at the moment till after the wedding. :(
