LOVE THIS! The stripes are my fav, this is what I want to do whenever we own a home!
The stripes are very subtle, but I really like the end result. I am jealous of all your painted rooms!!
Thanks girls!
@azin- its been a ton of work but I'm SO glad we did it fast and got it over with. Like a band-aid.... just get it done! :)
Wow, those stripes must have taken a lot of work! I helped my sister do one wall in her bedroom and I remember it taking forever. The color is great too, it really looks awesome with the furniture.
Wow, that looks awesome. I'm so jealous- painting (well) is beyond my capabilities.
OMG I think that's totally worth the effort - it looks amazing!!! I love that color!!!
@msmamabear- thanks! i really love the table. we just got it and it might be my fav furniture here :)
@CorgiTales - Is that table from Ashley Furniture? FI and I fell in love with one there that looks exactly like yours!
It is! We weren't even going to get a dining room table bc it wasn't a priority for me and then I saw this and it was all over!! Here is a close-up of it:
@Corgitales - Ahhh I love that table! At our Ashley, they also have a smaller, bar-height version of it that FI and I LOVE. We don't have room for a table that big right now, so we're thinking about getting the smaller one after the wedding!
wow! That looks fabulous--like something out of HGTV! I am super impressed with how straight your stripes are, esp since I can barely cut paper on a straight line!
@hilsy- I used tape :) I didn't freehand the stripes. now THAT would be incredible!
I really like that color a lot! And I think the stripes have just the right amount of contrast. They are not too defined, but you can see that they're there :)
Oh wow, your stripes look great! If painting wasn't so much effort, I would totally paint my apartment.
@corgitales: ok phew! That makes me feel a little better about my lack of skills :)
wow! that looks amazing! you did a great job! I especially like the wall with the table you picked out. you have great taste! Im gonna post some of our home improvements soon too :) its so great to see another bee is going through the sweat and effort right now! haha
We have totally been planning to do matte/gloss stripes in our master bedroom in a grey colour - your dining room turned out great, and I am totally inspired to get on our bedroom!
@mismini- i did a how-to on my blog linked to the top post. :) good luck and I wish you LOTS OF PATIENCE. heh
We have seen it a few times on design shows - and my uncle is a painter, he said the key is to make sure the walls are super clean first, he suggests wiping them with alcohol before the base coat to avoid paint stripping during the un-taping, and to wait as long as possible between the base and stripes (so our plan is to do the base coat one weekend, and the stripes the second weekend).
the stripes looks so pretty... we wanted to do stripes in our dining room but didnt know how to so we decided to go for a bold color
It looks worth it to me! The solid before picture wasn't nearly as good looking as the final product! Great job... and even reading the play by play, I'm still contemplating the idea :-)
AH! I went to comment on your blog about this today but wordpress pooped out for a while. just want to say i LOVE it!
Love the subtle strips and the gorgeous colour with the dark wood!
Just beautiful Corgi!
Its gorgeous, if you are going to hang anything on the walls. I suggest anything with a White frame, not too much.
White goes absolutely fantastic with the color you have chosen.
Looks great, I wish we could decorate but we are in a rental at the moment till after the wedding. :(
How did you get those stripes so subtle!? You should make a post on tips for painting becuase you are great at it!!

One thing I was super excited to do when we moved into our new house was paint the dining room. I had seen tone on tone stripes done before and I really liked how subtle/classy they looked, and our dining room seemed the perfect place to try it out.
Long story short.... I'm not entirely sure that this was actually worth the work. I like the results... but I'm not sure the stripes are obvious enough. Full story and DIY steps are here, but here is the before/after for your viewing pleasure. Yay for being done with painting for a looong time! :)
Also... any tips on what to hang on the walls? I am really bad at deciding how to decorate!
