Have your caterers/venue charged you an extra cost when providing guests with dinner options that would be chosen beforehand?
I would like to include dinner options on my RSVP cards, which means that I would have all the numbers of each meal when I confirm everything before the wedding so it’s not like the kitchen would have to prepare a bunch of untouched food just in case.
I initially picked one set chicken main course since it’s probably more universal than steak but now I’m considering adding a steak and seafood option as well. I’m thinking of contacting my venue (who caters in-house) but I was wondering if any of you ladies had issues with this request?

From what I’ve seen, the more options you have the more it costs. I think it’s because they may need additional cooks to help them prep and cook the different foods.

We didn’t have to pay extra to have the options, we just paid whatever the price per meal x how many meals. We had a chicken, beef, and vegetarian option.

Thanks ladies, so I guess it depends on the venue/caterer. I’ll give them a call and hopefully they can do it!

My venue gave me a set price and then said to pick 3 options. They’ll also work with me to customize those options, but that might affect the set price.
For my venue, the plated meal option is LESS expensive than a buffet. 🙂
ETA: And by customize, I mean customize the option itself — not per person. So, like, one of the options is french toast with bacon. I’m considering asking for it to come with fruit instead of bacon in order to ensure 1 vegetarian option..

We had a set price and were able to pick two entrees. Hopefully your venue will allow you to do this at no additional cost!

It depends on the venue. Our venue did not charge more for providing a choice but some other vendors in my area did. We just paid for however many filets, chickens, and pastas were ordered. And from experience, I will tell you if you put a nice cut of beegf as an option 90% of the guests will choose it!

i do know that some venues charge extra for more choices but mine didn’t. they were very accommodating. i could have as many choices as i wanted or needed with no extra charge. to make it simple i just went with beef, chicken and veg. (no one even chose the veg option). the entire meal was gluten-free too so my guests did not have to worry.

Mine didn’t charge more. Obviously the steak option cost more than the chicken, and you pay for X chicken meals and Y steak meals. But other than that, there was no additional charge
