Mermaid Inn has great seafood and takes reservations. I also really like Centro Vinoteca, Cookshop, and Extra Virgin (I'm thinking places with parent-friendly service and tables that aren't like, two inches apart from one another). Oh, Lure also has amazing seafood and a cool atmosphere.

mmmm, there's an AMAZING greek place in the East Village called Pylos, that is beautifully decorated and the food is great! I also love Cafe Du Soleil and Henry's, both of which are up by Columbia (104 and 105 and Broadway)... Bettoli's on the UWS (77th and Amsterdam, I think?) has good pizza and pasta for very reasonable prices...Also, Uva on 79th and 3rd (I think?) is delicious and has an outdoor patio out back....

Have you ever been to Bouley? Hands down my favorite place in the city for a nice meal out. Try the tasting menu, you won't be disappointed.
I love Kefi, Otto (Maybe too heavy on the pork though, but they have great veggie dishes and pastas with no meat too). I also like Lure Fishbar, and Mermaid Inn. Ooh! Marea. So delish, and really brilliantly done seafood.

I love Kefi! It might be a lil rambunctuous for your event, but great value and amazing food.
for an experience, churascuria platforma is fun, but i didn't love the food. as far as steak yum..... striphouse is the best, but i've had great experiences at mark joseph and del friscos. can't go wrong with the ribeye!

i just realized my bday's in a week. both our parents will be in town for it. now i'm on the hook to find a nice place for dinner for 6. i'm usually full of ideas but can't seem to find any right now. it can't be a steakhouse or meaty place (mum eats fish and seafood but not other meats). any ideas from the hive?
