Yes, yes, yes.
Get the snack, counter service, table service deal.
The light snack always serves as breakfast for my SO and I. I get a muffin. He gets a danish. Then we buy the $10 refillable cups and have soda every day (they have juice and hot chocolate and coffee as well).
Then the counter service serves as your lunch and you get a lunch meal, dessert and drink for that.
Then dinner is for any sit down place where you have a waiter or waitress. (I can recommend a few if you would like.)
Each dinner would be between $70 and $80 for the two of you. Plus the snacks and lunch. It'll add up to around $1000. I would certainly recommend it. Plus it totally cuts the amount of cash you have to carry around (though cards work). Now you just have to take cash for tips.
BTW-I love Disney.
The Disney dining plan is definitely worth it and I would never do WDW without it. In the end we saved a TON of money on the dining plan. We also eat a light breakfast, pretty light lunch but like to splurge more on dinner. Some of the restaurants for dinner at WDW for 2 people can be $100 alone with drinks. I definitely think you should go for it. Another thing I love about staying at a WDW resort is the extended park hours for guests staying at a WDW resort.
@In the media: So tell me about the reservation system and dining. I learned that you can call 180 days in advance to reserve but I HATE the idea of pre-planning my Disney days since you never know where you'll be or what you will be doing at a certain time.
Is it realistic to perhaps make one or two special reservations and otherwise just wing it?
First... YES THE DINING PLAN IS WORTH IT. Second, I do not know why they would call the Dolphin a Luxury Resort. It is not a Disney property, they are on Disney Property but not Disney Owned Resorts, which is why they do not offer the dining plan. They are actually considered Deluxe Resorts by their own website. Notice the name differences... Walt Disney World Dolphin/ Walt Disney World Swan are actually Sheraton Resorts that lease the property from Disney as opposed to all other resorts which use the name Disney's .....
Unless you are paying for your honeymoon using Starwood points or timeshare time, go with the True Disney Properties and you will find a much better atmosphere.
I haven't been yet, but we are going in January. We got our plan for free with a deal they have going now. After looking at the prices of the food their, I think it is worth the savings if you plan to eat at some of the nicer restaurants while you are there. It looks like you could easily be spending $60 of so for a sit down meal. Even the sandwhiches are $7+. It is kind of a hassle to book the ADRs, but in the end I think the plan is worth it.
ETA: You can make all of your meal reservations on-line and it is really simple to do once you know where you want to go:)
@clover32512:Thanks, I noticed that as well. We were actually starting to consider the Swan with queen versus double beds but again I agree with you about the atmosphere.
I also learned that you can add the dining plan on up to three days before your trip, so we can always decide later.
YES, absolutely! It was worth every penny.
We stayed at the Polynesian and it was nice to be immersed in all things Disney. Having easy access to the monorail was also worth staying in the park.
For me and my husband, the dining plan is totally worth it, because we love to eat! But the last time we went with my parents and sister we did it, and for them it was a total waste of money. Do you typically just eat a sandwich for lunch, or do you like a burger, fries, and dessert? Since the rest of my family are fairly light eaters, they ended up not even using a lot of the full meals, and just did the snack for their lunch and the counter meal for their dinners. I think you have to really just think about how much you like to eat, keeping in mind that the dining plan meals come with dessert and large portions.
If I can find it, I will link you to an extensive review my best friend did of her Disney honeymoon.
She just got married in October so it is quite recent.
Thanks everyone!
We ended up booking through Expedia and got an AMAZING deal at the Swan Resort which my FI loves and has stayed at several times. While we aren't elegible for the Disney Dining Plan we got a great luxury resort for a great price and one night free plus dining credits.
Here it is!
Hope that helps, ik you can pm her if you have any questions, she was so excited for the honeymoon (more so than the wedding, lol) and she loves to talk about it.
I LOVE the dining plan. It is such a great deal and the best way to try all of the great food at Disney.

Hi Ladies-
I think we have both agreed that our dream trip (since Alaska is ridiculous right now) is to do 8 nights/9 days in Disneyworld from May 22-30, 2012.
I have been doing quite a bit of research and we have come to an empass with regards to the Disney Dining plan and its value.
Here are the details:
In the end it comes down to this, the dining plan will cost us $1,000 for the entire trip overall and we will have to stay in a moderate resort versus a luxury resort.
If we book via Disney at a moderate resort (French Quarter or Riverside) WITH the dining plan it costs us approximately $1,000 more for the entire trip than if we book outside of Disney WITHOUT the dining plan and stay in a luxury hotel (his favorite, Dolphin Resort).
So bees, is it worth it to do the dining plan? Or with $1,000 more in our pockets will we be somewhat okay with food for the 9 days?
Addition, we are not three large meal a day eaters but a light breakfast, late lunch, snack?, bigger dinner couple.
