I personally love the idea! Many of my friends and family (and myself included at times) give money as a gift. And if you would rather it be given towards the type of honeymoon that you both want then I say go for it! And if you're planning on offering a small registery for those who don't feel comfortable then that's a good plan as well.

Since even before we got engaged, FI and I have agreed that we'd take our Honeymoon to Disney World. He's been a bunch of times with his family and I've only been once, so it'll be a great experience for us both. It's a while away, but I did some pricing online and was astounded at how expensive it can be - I mean, I guess it makes sense but I wasn't expecting the $4-5k prices that I got. There are certainly ways we can cut that down (originally we had hoped to take our honeymoon there for Christmas/New Year's, now we're planning on going in November for my birthday), but I am adamant about staying in the Animal Kingdom Lodge where we can see the giraffes so there's only so much we can do to drive costs down lol.
Anyway, I found on the Disney Honeymoons website that they let you create a registry where people can give money towards the cost of your trip and LOVE the idea. By the time we get married, FI and I will have lived together for 4+ years and will likely already have most of the things we need, so I don't really see any reason to have a regular registry when we could do this instead and put the money where it's needed. Obviously, we'd probably still have a small registry somewhere for those who felt more comfortable giving us something tangible and I'm always a fan of unique/homemade gifts (or no gift at all!).
Have any bees done a honeymoon registry, either with Disney or someway else? Did guests respond well to the idea?
Keep in mind, most of our guests will be friends around our age who are familiar with using the Internet (neither FI or I have a lot of family).
