So, both my friend and I are planning our weddings with Disney in mind. She's going with more of a princess theme, and I'm just incorporating some small Disney elements into mine.

We also happen to be taking a Disney class and for our final project, we are focusing on reasons why we, and other brides, might choose to use Disney as a theme and how they are incorporating it into their weddings.

If you are using Disney as part of your theme, do you have any ideas to help us with our planning or with our project?

I would be more interested in hearing how a bride would convince her fiance to go for a "Disney" themed wedding.

Mine would have laughed his a** off at the suggestion.

@yensid you can add some hidden mickey, you cake topper can be a mickey and a minnie, you can include some of the music from disney movies and if you are creating activities for the kids they can be disney related

I agree, my FI can handle Disney.  We are getting married there and he was the one that brought it up because he knows how much I love Disney!

@zippylef and magenta - Thanks for the suggestions! They helped a lot!

@whfields - So, this is kind of the same situation for me. My fi used to work at Disneyworld, and we've always been Disney fanatics, so that's why we chose to incorporate Disney into our wedding. We can't affford to get married there, but we plan to honeymoon at DW. My question now is more for the project I'm working on with my friend:

What were the reasonings behind choosing to get married at Disney? Is it one of those things where Disney brings back fond childhood memories so you want to have your wedding bring back some of that magic, or is it more about the magic itself?

There are also people who (and I'm not saying this is you at all) choose to have Disney weddings because of the label and the image/impression it gives... Any ideas?

We need several brides to use as references so any help you can give us would be great.

i have never been to a disney themed wedding but my friend has recently and they did something that i would like to warn you guys NOT to do!  They forced all their guests to stop dancing, sit down, and participate in a sing-along!  AHHH!  and it was a dry wedding so no wine to ease the pain lol!  don't do that to your guests.  each table had pieces of paper on it with a single line from a disney song and so each table in turn had to sing their line til the song was done.  this if course assumed you knew the songs but she said they chose really obscure songs from winnie the pooh and Pinocchio.  why not A Whole New World or Under the Sea, ones everyone knows??  or why do it at all hahaha!  i think adding in little hits of disney could be cute.  i remember going to a seafood restaurant at epcot when i was young and they had the butter on the table molded into mickey mouse!  if you can get your caterer to do that it would be awesome!

are you getting a disney wedding dress too?  they have some really lovely ones in the line, not costumey at all even tho they are inspired by the disney princesses.

    Hello Yensid,

Having a Disney themed wedding is a great idea.  In fact, my wedding in September is going to be entirely Disney themed -- I've had this idea in mind since before I was engaged and was worried about pulling it off, but I've gotten it down to an art. :-)

I don't know why people call them "fi" -- but my fiance and I are huge Disney fans, so he was all for the idea.  We are going on a Disney cruise for our honeymoon but that's just the start of it.  Beauty and the Beast is our favorite Disney movie so we're planning most of it around that.  For example, our Save-the-Date magnets had a sillouette of the Beast with a rose and said "Be Our Guest".  Naturally, roses are going to be our flowers -- the maids/groomsmen will have lavender roses to go with our colors and my fiance and mine will be red. :-) My dress is gathered on the bottom half, somewhat like Belle's.  Though I haven't completely got it right yet, my idea for our centerpieces is to have a single rose enclosed in a dome/vase, sitting atop a piece of glass to reflect.  So these are little touches to tie it all together -- certainly nothing cheesy like sing-a-longs!!!

Speaking of, we've been fortunate enough to know some musicians so we're going to have a DJ AND a live band.  The jazz quartet will be perfect for some Frank Sinatra, dinner music and of course classy Disney favorites.  We've already heard a demo they played of "Someday my Prince will Come" and I about died -- it was BEAUTIFUL!!  We will probably also include "When you wish upon a star", "A whole new world", and other classics.  My fiance and I are dancing our first dance to "Beauty and the Beast" theme song, so we won't have to endure Mrs. Potts or go with the 1990s cadence in Celene Dion's song (I love the song, but my fiance won't allow it lol).

We're also taking a carriage ride from the church in downtown Cincinnati to our reception in Covington, Kentucky.  This means we'll get to ride over the river on the historic Roebling bridge at sunset. :-) This is quite affordable, especially if you don't need all the bells and whistles.  I'd be happy to keep you updated on any other ideas we have as we create them! :-)

As to why people have Disney weddings -- I think some girls grow up as little princesses dreaming of their big day, others just like the fairy tale that Disney provides.  We're doing it because we both love Disney -- and the reason we do is because Walt Disney and his message is consitent thru all of his movies: true love conquers all.  And isn't that the idea of a wedding and getting married? :-)  Not only do Disney movies focus on true love in every form (family love, friendship, romantic love) but they also encourage us to achieve our dreams and folow the stars.

Speakin of cheesy -- lol pardon my rantings, but I hope that this helped!!

We are not having a Disney wedding, but we did consider it.  My Fiance proposed at Disneyland.  We looked in to having our wedding there, but decided against it.  We also tried to think of ways to incorporate some disney into our reception, but ultimately it isn't going to work for us.  I do have one last idea though.  His aunt and uncle recently gave us a rose bush that is the Disneyland Rose.  It orange and pink, which also happens to be our wedding colors.  I am thinking of asking the florist if he add a few to my bouquet.

i start planing my wedding with little mermaid theme in mind, my wedding planner kind of change a few things, but i still did it.

    you can do invitations,cake toper,colors,favors,cake,centerpieces.

you dont have to make your wedding just like disney, but i think little disney themed details can make it look great.

    i had a beach wedding

    colors:blue,pearl,silver

    disney favors

we had a coacktail betwen ceremony and reseption (served in shells,seafood...)

    pearl napkin rings

    seashell decor

minnie ear tiaras with a short veil(white-minnie bride)   as favors for ladys (or animation)

i had two ceremonys, one at church, the legal one by the beach,....
