We are getting married in July of 09 and would like to fly down to Orlando for a few days before our tropical island honeymoon starts (where that is - who knows right now!) - but we are having a hard time picking out a place....
We think we would like to stay ON Disney property - but have no idea where. We are torn between staying at a "fancy" hotel - because it will be the first place we go as hubbie/wifey - but we don't want it to break the bank....OR staying at one of the lower "moderate" hotels -but are afraid that perhaps it will be TOO casual....My fiance has never been to Disney World, and I have so many great memories - that I would like him to get the whole picture. And as cute as it is, he is really excited about it.....
But again, $$$ is the factor....sadly :(
Thanks so much for anyone's input!! Any and all advice or suggestions greatly appreciated!
There is a great promotion right now on the Walt Disney site that you can get a free ticket to either park in Florida or California on the day of your birthday. Now sure if that helps.
For the higher end properties, Wilderness Lodge and the Polynesian are fantastic. Mid-range, I've liked the Yacht Club/ Boardwalk properties. The Swan and Dolphin are on Disney property but managed by an outside company - I've preferred those to the official entry-level resorts (the Pop resorts). I know there are WDW forums so maybe you'll have more info there? Good luck and have fun!
I love, love, love the Boardwalk Inn and Villas. The hotel is beautiful and the Boardwalk is so quaint. The BIG plus is that you can walk to both Epcot and MGM Studios from the Boardwalk hotel!!!
I got (priceline dot com) a killer deal last year staying at Omni Championsgate. It was gorgeous and a four to five star property. I went on a whim with one of my girlfriends and our kids and we stayed for a long weekend and went park hopping. Thing is, the pool there and lazy river is so amazing, we thought we were somewhere tropical! Definitely better than staying in Disney imho and the food is wonderful.
I'd recommend the sites where you learn how to bid on travel. I use them all the time. biddingfortravel.com is one such site. teaches you how and what resorts are up for grabs in a given city/country/region. I got a room for 120/night that is usually during high season 300 plus.
