my FI and i want to go to Disneyland for our honeymoon. we're thinking 5 days 6 nights.

we would get 5 day park hoppers

and of course have to wear the ears :)

     disneymoon? : wedding 2241073216 59e525440f

i found a nice suite (not a honeymoon suite) but it has a Jacuzzi in the room (not a Jacuzzi bathtub, an actual Jacuzzi) and from what I've read the hotel is nice

FI and I decided on this because after all the stress of wedding planning, we wanted something "fun" and light (if that makes sense lol)

we can always take another trip... that is why were aren't too concerned about it

but his family seems to think its weird :(

they asked if it was because of finances **rolls eyes**

we are spending just as much if not more on this trip than we would have at an all inclusive resort trip or something

so tell me, is it weird??? lol

We're honeymooning at Disney and I'm so excited about it! Look into getting the deluxe dining plan so you can eat at California Grill and Narcoossee's and allt he other awesome restaurants. Some people just don't get it, they think Disney is a little kids' place. But where else can you get roller coasters, awesome pools, fireworks shows that may or may not actually bring tears to me eyes, shows - some Disney and some like Cirque du Soelil, great restaurants, surfing lessons, safari rides, and more?! I love it, it's my family's favorite place ever. And the cast members treat honeymooners so special!

We honeymooned at Disney and we loved it!!! I didn't go on my honeymoon with the intent of making my family happy so I wouldn't worry about what others think.

Also I would say 80% of the things we did at Disney we would not have been able to do with children.

I wouldn't want to honeymoon there, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't. I would want to relax on beach and not be around a ton of screaming kiddos, but that type of honeymoon isn't for everyone either. Disney is expensive so the finance thing is silly. We're going in October and for the 3 of us it's like $5k!

I don't think a Disney honeymoon is for everyone but neither is going on safari or as mwitter80 said relaxing on a beach. I grew up on the beach so the idea of taking a trip to a different one sounds boooooring. LOL.

Like june42011id, you're going on your honeymoon for yourself not other people. If you want to do disney then go for it.

    @mwitter80:

exactly, i know it's been awhile since his family as been to disneyland but it's never been cheap so the money comment is so ridiculous. we are easily spending $3k-$4k on this trip and i've heard of deals where you can get a whole week at an all inclusive resort including airfare for like $2500 total.

don't get me wrong, we love beaches and we love to travel together and do it often, and plan to continue. but i think for that week i want disney magic :)

thanks ladies! glad to see i'm not the only one having a disneymoon!

depending on the season, DL can be super stressful, what with the strollers and screaming kids and sticky food spilled everywhere... if you are going right after your wedding though, it'll be before elementary schools let out for the summer, so you should miss at least some of the chaos, which will make it a lot more fun!

Have you been before? Having lived in Southern California for several years, my perspective may be a little jaded, but I'm not sure I'd want to spend 5 days in the parks - maybe a 2 or 3 day park hopper and then drive to San Diego and do the wild animal park and zoo for 2 days! There are some tourist packages you can buy that include various parks around the (southern part of the) state.

If you guys love the Mouse though, go for it! It's YOUR honeymoon, afterall, not that of any naysaying family members :)

We are looking into Disneyworld! They have nice resorts, nice restaurants, and a lot to do. I completely agree - it would be nice to do something fun and easygoing after the wedding!

NOT weird at all!!  I wish we could go to disney on the cruise b/c my parents are a part of the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) and we could have gone for FREE...but not Mr. anti-Disney.  UGH!!!  Have fun!  I have the ears I'll be wearing them for my Bachelorette, Bridal shower and Rehershal! I can't wait!! :)  Nothing wrong at all for going there...it's your honeymoon, you do what YOU guys want to do!!  Oh and lots of people go there...you get treated VERY WELL when you tell them your on your honeymoon.  I had some friends go there a couple years ago and my parents went many years ago too.

Also, Park hopper is the way to go.  Also, save money for food and get the Meal Plan...you save so much money that way.

@thetraceface: go on the dis boards and check out coronado springs. that is where we are staying. for the price, it seems like such an amazing trip and resort!

and for the time, it may sound crazy but wait to go on the honeymoon at the right time if you can. we are getting married in june, but will go to disney world in september. because of the price, vacation time, crowds, ect.

Would I go? No. But my husband would've been thrilled. Actually our first and maybe biggest fight was about him getting mad because I said I wouldn't want to go to disneyworld on vacation lol.

I just think there are disney people and then there are non-disney people. Us non-disney people just don't get the appeal. But that doesn't mean we're right... it just means we have different preferences. If this is what you want to do, ignore his family and go for it! It certainly is not unheard of. I have 2 cousins that did disneyworld for their honeymoons and they both loved it.

We are going to Disneyworld for our honeymoon as well! We have a 3 1/2 year old son and he will be around 5 when we go so we didn't want to just go off on a honeymoon by ourselves because we are getting married as a family :)

We did our real honeymoon in Belize, and then two weeks after we got back it was my 30th, so we went to Disney for a fake second honeymoon/birthday trip. I say fake second honeymoon because we were trying to milk freebies out of the system, lol! FYI, birthdays get you further than honeymoons in Disney, but neither gets you much! In any case, I would have been totally happy with a HM in Disney, I love it there. We had a great few days, really enjoyed ourselves, and since it was October we got to go to the Not So Scary Halloween Party which was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can hardly wait to do it again!!!! If you're into Disney and know what to expect in terms of line ups, kids, etc, you'll be fine and have a great time :)

PS - I totally got the bride ears, but I couldn't get DH to do the top hat :(

If you already love Disney and are a fun-loving couple, go for it!! I would love to take the BF to Disney World one day (I'm actually hoping for my 22nd birthday since it falls on a long-weekend).

There is so much to do, both with and without kids around, so it can be romantic when you want to and carefree when you like.

It's your honeymoon, enjoy it and go wherever you want! We're planning a Caribbean cruise and when I realized today we'd be in Florida a day before the cruise departs I mentioned making a pit stop at Disney to my FH and we were like two kids...totally go for it, ears and all!!

@harleyquinn29: definitely a valid train of thought!

I wish there were more than just the 2 parks in California; I was routinely jealous of Florida for having so many parks, when we've only got 2 (and DCA is kind of lame).

We are having our wedding and honeymoon in disney world.

I don't know much about Disneyland, but there are plenty of adult things to do and plenty of opportunities for romance in Disney World...

IMHO, if you are planning on five day parkhoppers anyway... why not change it over to Disney World? There's alot more to do and during May you have the Flower and Garden Festival at Epcot... and I believe (not sure... might not be until June) Star Wars weekends over at Disney Studios.

We just got back fom Disney World and for 2 adult and 2 kids with meal plan and resort it was about $2,700. It was a lot of fun and there were times when I wished we had a babysitter so DH and I could do stuff together. I think it would really be a lot of fun!

I usually avoid posting on questions where I think I will give an answer that the OP doesn't want to hear (just because I hate to hurt anyone's feelings). But, to be honest, the whole Disneyland thing is something that has mystified me, so I am going to post my opinion (since you asked). I would never ever go on a Disneyland honeymoon and do think it is a bit "weird" (not the word I would usually use, but just using it because it is the word you used in your original post). To me, a honeymoon should be romantic and unique, something that you and your new husband can enjoy together that you wouldn't be able to enjoy in the same way in a few years when you have kids. I think there is tons of time to go to Disneyland once you have children. I am aware that Disneyland is expensive, so I wouldn't call it "cheap," but I do think it is ... uninspired (searching for a non-offensive word here)? I really hope you will consider somewhere else that could offer you so much more than Disneyland, which you can visit once you have children.

@Calla85:  Disney (either world or land) is magical in its own way.  You dont have to have a beach or Paris (etc) to have romance.  D & I have a date night at least once each trip we head to Disney (World).  We like to ride rides together (which after kids you cant do...trust me we have 2), hold hands walking down Mainstreet at night toward the castle, kiss during the fireworks, even just enjoying the surroundings.  Disney has a way of making things extra special for those who are honeymooning or are getting married there.  It is diff when its just adults vs adults w/ kids.  This trip for them will be stress free not having to worry about who will watch the kids first so the other can go on Matterhorn or Big Thunder Mountain.  They can just enjoy the magic that Walt and his crew created together w/o worry.  For us we find the beach and that stuff overrated.  We deff enjoy being able to enjoy life and not be serious all the time. We have enough seriousness in our lives (D deploys every other year for a year) that once in a whole we like to just relax and let loose.  And isnt your honeymoon about enjoying something that you 2 enjoy TOGETHER.

OP...ENJOY IT we never had a true honeymoon so our Disney Vow Renewal and night after (cause MIL is taking kids) is our DisneyMoon!!!!

I have friends that went on a Disneymoon 20 years ago.  They STILL rave about the great time they had.  Your honeymoon should be something the two of you want and enjoy.  Who cares that others wouldn't like it.  You and your husband will be there enjoying it, not them!  Go for it!
