Good morning bees! Recently I went to get a manicure along with a bachelorette party. It’s for a dear friend of mine and all of us girls (who have been friends since high school or longer) took her out for a complete day of pampering! She loves having her nails done, so we went.
I always do my own nails, and I often get compliments on them, but of course I went along and paid for a manicure because it was all for the fun of the bach. And after paying $20 (that included my tip) I looked at my nails and just thought:
“Welp… never paying for THAT again. I could do that!!!!!!!!!!!!” It’s easy for me to do them because my nails grow naturally long, and I am also a bit ambidextrous so when it comes to my “off” hand… I don’t really have one!
I had originally been planning on “oh I’ll probably go to the salon to get them done, special treat for my wedding” but now I’m 100% convinced that I will do them myself!! I have tons of pretty colors already and I’m probably going with a simple french manicure with a bit of glitter added, so why not?
I also recently went to the salon and got my hair colored. I’ve been coloring it myself with boxed dyes since I was 16 (about 9 years now) and they’ve always looked just fine! I went and got it done professionally about 3 weeks ago, because again I figured I would want to go all out for my wedding. And the color DOES look great! But…. I could probably keep doing this myself. Again. (Only difference is with boxed dyes you might have a liiiiiiittle bit of guess work about how the color will ACTUALLY turn out, and the salon generally can tell!) I’m still undecided on this one.
So bees, I know there must be a bunch of you out there who are super talented with your nails, your hair, your makeup, etc… who’s DIYing their wedding day beauty! And once I’m done with my nails this morning, I’ll post a pic!!!

I will probably dye my own hair out of a box too! I am getting extensions if I have my hair down, so it will depend on whether or not I have to try and dye them too, but I will likely do it, as I do a good job! Brunettes are easy 🙂
Also, I’ve bought some gorgeous new makeup and will be DIYing that too – I don’t see how a makeup artist could get it ‘right’ on me, lol. Youtube videos and google are awesome for learning tips of the trade (ie nothing mineral or with SPF, as they react with flash photography)

In the past I have always died my hair on my own. For the wedding, I will be doing my own nails and hair. I don’t wear makeup, so I won’t worry about that. I also cut my own hair. Lol I am probably considered “cheap!”

I’m doing my own hair and makeup! Simply because I’ve never had a professional do my hair or makeup better than I can.
I’m sure there are many hairstylists and makeup artists who are infinitely more talented than I am, BUT I haven’t met one yet. I’m not going to risk it on my wedding day. Plus it’s destination and there won’t really be time for trials. I’m definitely going to do my research and practice a ton so I’ll be sure to bump up the quality for the big day.
On a similar but opposite note, I have never achieved a pedicure even close to the quality of a professional, so I will definitely be getting a professional mani/pedi. If you’re great at manicures on yourself then I’m jealous! My left hand is pretty much useless – scratch that – it makes a very nice ring display 😉

I had the exact same experience with my nails. I got them done a few months ago and was really underwhelmed. On the upside, I picked up a couple of tricks I can easily replicate at home so I can have nice nails without the $20 pricetag.
I’m also DIY the hair and makeup. Well, I mean I’m not going to a salon; my best friend is going to do me up. She’s awesome at that kind of stuff, so I trust her to do a good job. I’ve seen other people get their hair and makeup done around here, and I’m not very impressed with that either.

I am going to have Bridesmaid or Best Man do my hair, and cousin do my makeup. I want to feel pampered, but there is actually a bigger motive. Neither of my cousins invited me to any part of their weddings other than the wedding or shower (I really thught i ‘d get an invite to the bachelorette party!!!) . I want everyone to feel as included as possible. Also, the only time I’ve had my hair done was awful and stiff, and cost way too much. I will either get my nails done or buy gel polish before hand. I can’t stand how fast polish chips! Nails depend a lot more on how they are looking – mine break super easy

I had my hair professionally done, but did my own makeup myself and so glad I did!

Doing make-up and nails on my own. Getting my hair professionally done though, it’d actually cost me more to buy all the equipment and products I’d need.

I don’t dye my hair, but I will be styling it and doing my make up myself. I hadn’t really thought about nails, but I do a good DIY mani so I’ll do that myself too!
my bridesmaid and I both hate getting things ‘done’ for us so she’s happy to do her own hair and make up too! we’ll do it all together at my house.

@MissChelly: Hey it’s not cheap if you can do it on your own, its AWESOME lol.
So many of you are doing your own makeup, I am impressed! I hardly ever wear makeup, (although I do enjoy getting dolled up on occasion) so I feel nervous to do it for my big day. And I am just not hair gifted lol.
Who knows though, maybe if I do go somewhere to get a trial run and buy the makeup, I’ll do it myself!

I’m DYIing my hair, nails and make up! I’m not too wonderful with the make up yet, but I can’t see myself going to a salon for my hair. I have short, sort of out grown pixie hair which is the outcome of a terrible dye job last August. I’ve always dyed my own hair, but for whatever reason I thought I’d have it done professionally. Well, they bleached me, which fine alright, but then they put me under a heater for 45 minutes! My extremely thin hair couldn’t take it and was so limp and breakable for weeks afterwards, I had to cut it all off. I’m not too upset though, because I’ve had every color and cut under the sky, so I can pull it off, but I’m not trusting anyone with my hair, skin or nails. I can do it all, Lol.

I hate having my hair done because it’s so fine and doesn’t hold curls well. I decided to just do a sock bun and be done with it! I’m still trying to decide what kind of headband or accessory to wear for the reception.
I also plan on doing my own makeup, and I’ll likely just wear clear nail polish (though if I feel like splurging, I’ll get my first pro manicure!)

I’ll be dying my own hair, & doing my own nails & toes.
I’ll be getting a stylist & MUA for the day-of though, unless i find some super fabulous makeup before then!
