Question regarding making your own cake/cakes for the wedding: has anyone done it? Would you recommend or advise against it?
FH would like us to bake some homemade cakes to go with the rustic theme of the wedding, save costs and keep it more personal. Thing is I love baking small cakes, but have never made a big fancy one before, and don’t want to try for our wedding!
I do like the idea of baking several normal sized cakes before hand, freezing them and then defrosting and decorating them (perhaps the staff at the venue can decorate them with fruit/icing) on the day. My worry is that it will look weird to have 10 small cakes on a table – even though we are thinking of mixing it up by having 2 types.
Another point – we’d like to cut and serve them to guests ourselves on the night, as we want to add a personal touch to the wedding and have a moment to chat to everyone before everything wraps up!
