Hey bees! So one of my major DIY projects is going to be calligraphy on the invite envelopes- I know, I know, envelopes get tossed in the trash so why bother, BUT learning calligraphy has been something I’ve wanted to do for a long, long time and I figured what better way to practice than addressing invites?
So I’ve been fooling around with it and I think I’ve finally found a style I like. I thought I would post to get some feedback, and any critiques from any calligraphy experts 😛 I know I need to work on my numbers. Also, I just have some felt tip pens at the moment so I’ve been “cheating”- writing the words then going back and filling in the downstrokes. I will probably invest in some pens in the future.
Some “invites” addressed to a few of my good friends 🙂 :
And a random song lyric :
And finally, what it looks like before I fill in the downstrokes:

It’s beautiful, but if those are actual address, I could block at least the address part out.

jenilynevette: Thanks! Don’t worry, they’re not real addresses 🙂

I think they look great! I don’t think you need to be an expert calligrapher to do your own addresses. You don’t have to be perfect because people will know you went the extra mile to give them a personal touch. 🙂 One of my biggest wedding pet peeves is address labels on save the dates and invites, so I’m doing my own calligraphy too. I think that calligraphy pens give your own penmanship a nice flair so you don’t have to learn the styles exactly. Good luck!

Looks great! I recently took a calligraphy class and it’s definitely not easy. You could also print out in a calligraphy font and go over up in a marker or pen. Just something to think about.

ClaudiaKishi: Love! Great job.

Curlycupcake: Thanks! I thought about that but it seems like sooo much more work- these ones are freehand, so I don’t have to mess with printing envelopes! I also find it hard to trace over writing that isn’t mine. But I’ve definitely considered this.

WOW! Good job 🙂
If you don’t mind me asking, did you take a class or did you learn on your own? iIf the latter, could you please share tips or videos etc. you used? Thanks!

Yeah, it can definitely be a pain to print on envelopes. Either way I think what you have looks great so if it’s easier you should stick with it!

ClaudiaKishi: Bradford Court, Stonebrook… Is that an intentional Babysitters Club reference????
Please tell me it is.
