    DIY Card Cake Box

This project is not for the faint of heart.

I thought this DIY project would be one of the easiest to do. Boy was I wrong. It took me about a week to do this project because of all the redo's and having to make sure the glue and paint dried.

For this project, you will need the following supplies:

    1. 3 round craft boxes
    2. craft paint to match your fabric
    3. 1" craft paint brush
    4. all purpose glue
    5. glue dots
    6. sharp scissors
    7. exacto knife
    8. fabric
    9. iron
    10. ribbon
    11. single rose
    12. embellishments (I used leftover ribbon roses)
    13. lots and lots of patience

    Instructions:

    1. If your fabric is thin, use your paint to paint your 3 box bottoms and the large lid. I used white to paint my boxes.
    2. Let dry overnight
    3. Measure the circumference of each box and the large lid and add 1 1/2 to 2 inches
    4. Cut your lengths of fabric according to your measurements
    5. Place each box, bottom side down, on your fabric and trace your circle
    6. Cut out each circle and add 1/2 to 1 inch around the circle
    7. Take your glue dots and put on the inside edge of the bottom of each box.
    8. Lay the circles on the bottom of the box making sure you have overhang on each side of the box
    9. Take your scissors and cut little snips in the overhang
    10. Using your glue dots, attach the overhang to the sides of the box
    11. Next take your rectangular shapes of fabric and fold the longest side over 1/4 to 1/2 inch and iron to make lay flat
    12. Hold up to your box to make sure it won't be too short. You still want some overhang on the bottom to fold in later
    13. Using more glue dots, attach your rectangle to the outside of the box
    14. Then clip the overhang on the bottom of the box and then fold the clips to the inside of the box and attach glue dots to hold in place
    15. Using an exacto knife, cut the card opening out of the largest box
    16. Measure two lengths of ribbon for the card opening
    17. Use all purpose craft glue to glue ribbon in place on outside of box, leaving excess of ribbon facing toward the card opening
    18. Let dry overnight
    19. Pull excess ribbon through card opening and clip and attach to inside using your glue dots
    20. Use all purpose glue to attach any embellishments to the sides of the card box opening
    21. Again, let dry overnight
    22. When that is done, you are ready to glue the boxes together
    23. Trace around the medium box onto the large box bottom and trace around the small box onto the medium box
    24. Use your all purpose glue and trace around the circle with it
    25. Put the corresponding box on the corresponding circle
    26. Let dry overnight (I suggest letting one dry before you put the other one on)
    27. Measure your ribbon to go around your boxes adding a 1/2 to 1 inch overhang
    28. Attach ribbon to the bottom lid with glue dots and put finished lid on the large box bottom
    29. Attach ribbon to the bottom of the other boxes with glue dots
    30. Attach rose to top of small box and other embellishments with all purpose glue
    31. Let dry overnight

I am now going to cover my card box with a bag and stick it in a box. This is the hardest project that I have done so far. There were many times that I just wanted to smash it and toss it, but I am done, so that is a good thing. Now I am on to the next project.

Thank you so much llc and Osa. I really appreciate your comments. This was a hard one.

Seriously, this was the card box was hard to make. I was ready to smash it and trash it several times.

My wedding is after yours Osa, but if you want me to make you one, PM me with what you are wanting, and I can let you know how much. Also, how many cards you would need it to hold, so I could figure out the size.

@Osa: I had almost everything on hand to make this, so it didn't cost me much. If you want the same one, I would have to price it out. I would also need to know the size of the one you want. This one is good for a smallish wedding. I still have some rose fabric on hand, but I would need to get the boxes, more dots, ribbon, pink satin fabric, and a rose. Everything else, I have on hand. Now that I know how to do it, I don't think it would be so bad. I just had to do everything trial and error, since I had never made one before.

You could make one; however, it does require a lot of patience and perseverence. It would probably be less expensive for you to have someone else make it for you, if you are not a crafty person.

Thank you ccranetobe. It seemed to take forever, but I have gotten good reveiws from other family members and friends, so that is a good thing. I think the reason that I got so frustrated is because I am a perfectionist and I can see things that other people can't, so I had to redo a few things.

Those are adorable! I'm still debating whether or not a card box is necessary, but that just looks like fun, haha!

Thank you amanda.lynn. I debated too, but I figure at least one person will bring us a card, so it will get used.

Thank you Azin. What a unique idea. It is adorable.
