So … after getting some serious sticker shock from the decorator we met with, we have decided to decorate our reception ourselves … We want to keep things fairly simple. Our venue is a ballroom in a golf club, 2 of the walls are windows with views of the hills and paths of the golf course, there is a stone fireplace against one wall, the venue is otherwise pretty plain.
We have either white or black tablecloths included (we want to use the black tablecloth) our idea is to have a candle lantern such as the one attached with a white block candle inside, around the lantern would be a dense pile of pink rose petals …
What do you think, pretty or pretty ugly?

What size tables are you going to be using? I think that JUST the lantern with one candle and some petals is going to get lost on the table. Have you thought about maybe adding some tea lights or small vases of flowers around it?

I think that it is a great idea and would look lovely, esp with the rose petals around.

The tables are smaller round tables that seat about 8 people, we have discussed having votives in small glass votive cups around the table as well, we will have the tables set with wine glasses, cutlery, and napkins with menu cards … the lanterns are fairly large (6x6x11)
We would also use the lanterns for the wishing tree table (one on either side, with rose petals scattered over the table

I love the lantern, but I don’t know about the black tablecloth. Will it make the reception venue look too dark? Or are you going for a dark theme like that?
I actually just saved an inspiration board a few days ago that had a lantern as the centerpiece… I love the idea of flowers surrounding it!! (Bottom row)
Do you mind sharing where you found those lanterns? They are gorgeous 🙂

The venue is quite bright/white, with the big windows on 2 sides, and the rest of the venue has white walls and light grey carpets.
Our wedding colors are black/white with pink accents, so we thought the black tablecloths with white napkins, and black chair covers with white sashes would balance out the bright/white of the rest of the venue.
The pink is really only coming into play for the flowers, cake, and candy buffet, so bringing it onto the tables with rose petals would tie it in well I think
This is our venue with similar linens … just swap out the centerpieces for our lanterns/pink petals, and we are on the fence regarding the table runners …

Thanks! That’s what we thought when we saw it decorated this way … perfect for us, and the tables/chairs/black tablecloths/white napkins are included in the rental (we just need to rent the chair covers and sashes/table runners) so it pretty much decorates itself … they have the beautiful stone fireplace covered in this picture, but we will be leaving it open.
