I was actually really stressing about this. I originally was going to DIY, but then I played out every worst case scenario in my mind and decided against it. I'm sure many people have done it themselves and have been very successful, but for me it wasn't worth being stressed. I couldn't afford musicians, either. FI and I actually hired a DJ to play the music for us for a reasonable fee. Now I don't have to worry about things like setup and sound, or playing the right songs at the right time. DJ will also set up a mic for our officiant.
Maybe you could talk to your reception DJ and see if it's possible to have someone come with a mini-setup for your ceremony? If this isn't an option, you could put a reliable friend/family member in charge of your iPod/player. Good luck!
My FMIL just sent me something about this...she was like how about a harpist! And thats definitely not my taste or ME at all. I had a friend who had an outdoor wedding and she had one guy playing the guitar - it was really simple and beautiful ....I think thats what Im going to do

I am hiring a DJ for my reception..... but I have no clue what I am going to do about my ceremony music... we are at an outdoor location with no electricity without running extension cords.... and I plan to have one of my bestfriends sing a song. during our Sand Ceremony... And i just realized that I have no idea how I am going to do the music for my Ceremony.
It is not in my budget to hire someone to play...soo...
What are you doing? Are you making a cd and playing off a boom box? An Ipod? a Laptop? Should the music be in the front or the back of the aisle?
