Hi weddingbees 🙂
My fiance and I are having a desitination wedding, just the two of us! We will share a tiny wedding cake for two… after our first meal together as husband and wife!
I can’t wait to contact the different bakeries where we will be getting married to have our special little cake made up!
When we get back home we will be having a bbq to celebrate! That is where the cupcakes come in!
I want to do flavors that will match our tropical themed party. I also want the little cakes to look the part too!
So far I have come up with these flavors (I need to come up with 3 awesome flavors!)
-Lemon with some sort of complimentary frosting?
-Coconut/Pina Colada with coconut flakes on top of frosting
-Chocolate (my fiance LOVES chocolate), but how to make them tropical??
For the decorations I want to mold chocolate in the shape of starfish or seashells and place one on top of each frosted cupcake! How else can I make them pretty???

@soon2beesmith671: We are making angel cake cupcakes with lemon baked in and then a really simple raseberry topping 🙂
Can you make orange frosting to go with the chocolate?

@soon2beesmith671: Those all sound like good tropical flavors. I’ve had lemon and raspberry and lemon and blueberry together, they were both good. What about lemon cupcakes with lime frosting? You could do that and add a plain vanilla cupcake. You could have a grooms chocolate cake?

Do you get guylian chocolates in America? They come in pretty shells/sea related things and could work well on the top of some of your cupcakes:
To make chocolate tropical I would might pair coconut with it (We have Bounty Bars here – I think the equivalent in the US would be Mound Bars? They are tropical themed!) Or you could do banana flavoured cupcakes with chocolate buttercream icing?
And nothing says tropical to me like Pineapple etc. so I think a Pina Colada themed cupcake (or even a Hummingbird one!) is a great idea.
Another decoration idea is to get some lollies like the fish below – should be able to pick them up at any Candy store/cake decorating place.

How about coconut rum cupcakes? 🙂 I have a home-based bakery where I do predominately alcohol cupcakes, so maybe I’m biased… haha.

Chocolate mango could be delicious and tropical; same with banana. For lemon, maybe a strawberry daiquiri flavored frosting?
For decorations, get some sugar sand to make the tops of some cupcakes look like the beach.

Thanks for all the yummy suggestions!!
@Payless: mmm orange frosting would go well with the chocolate! I could do mandarin orange to make it more “tropical”, thanks for the idea!
@greenidlady: I like the lemon-lime combo! I would do a groom’s cake but I like the idea of setting all the cupcakes out without having to cut any cake…lol. My idea for the party is really laid back and ummmm lazy lol
@Lollybags: Those chocolates are perfect!!! I found a diy on pinterest to make chocalates that look exactly like those! I will look the guylian chocolates up and see how the price compares…easier the better lol 🙂
@futuremrsndl: Coconut rum cupcakes??? You just gave me a great idea, I can top chocolate cupcakes with coconut-rum flavored frosting! YUM!
@zumbaista: I really like the sugar for beach sand idea! Time to start searching pinterest! 🙂
So many good ideas!! Can’t wait to share pictures of the finished products… wish the next 8 months would go by faster!!!!
