    Hey Helpful Bees!

You are are usually pretty helpful so I have another question/problem to solve. We're having an outdoor ceremony & reception. The reception will be held just a few steps away (up a small starway) on a "patio" type area. The area is on gravel but it is pretty well compacted. FI & I are doing a surprise dance and were thinking of doing it on the sidewalk that's on the side of the whole "patio" area but now we're thinking that might not be a great place because of how the tables will be, some may not be able to see well. So we would like to move the dancing area to the middle but that's on gravel. I got an idea from another post to get some type of hard carpet from Home Depot, but I'm wondering if anyone else has any other ideas?? We're pretty much to the top of our budget and can't spend extra $ on renting a dance floor.

    Thanks!

A few large sheets of plywood that are mounted together to form a dance floor? If done the right way it will work great :)

Check around some inexpensive building supply stores for 4X8 plyboard, exterior paint and large hinges.  I love Habitat for Humanity's ReStore.

Eight boards will give you a 16X16 dance floor.  Twelve boards will give you a 16X 24 dance floor.  If you cut them into 4X4, you'll have more flexibility on size arrangements.

Paint the boards with heavy nap rollers.  Use 3-4 coats for extra good coverage.  You can also paint a design if you want an artistic touch.  During you venue setup, attach the boards together on the underside with the large hinges.

Supply cost could range from $50 (from ReStore) to $200 Home Depot/Lowes for a 16X16 floor.
