So, I decided to cut out a rectangle of fabric and try to make a drawstring pouch without a pattern. the first was a total epic fail. the second, however, turned out pretty darned cool!!! I have to get some black yarn, but for the test run, I used the white I had. I have some leather, that I might try also for the fun of it, too. 🙂
The next objective is to try and figure out how in the heck I can customize this sucker for the wedding.
Any suggestions? One friend suggested the fabric from Michaels that can be printed on. Any other ideas? Or is that the best thing available???
oh… and I snapped the pic with the pouch sitting on my FI’s netbook, lol.

You could do embroidery on them for your initials and the date to make the more customized. Or do iron on transfers (there are ones that you buy and print yourself with your own design)
If you do them for the guests: maybe you could do their initials or at least a big letter for their first or last name…you could buy transfer and iron them on…it would be a little work to get each one to match for your guests, but after awhile you would just need to organize by name and buy so many S’s to use…so it wouldn’t be too hard especially if by last name. Kind of time consuming :S
Or put a fabric flower (out of same material or out of different) or butterfly or something that goes with your theme on to them to give them a little bling 😀
You might be able to make a stencil and paint them or use the YUDU to screen paint them. (not sure if it would work for leather or not)

@floridabeachbride: oh, sorry, I have the leather string, not actual leather squares. my mistake.
I hadn’t thought of the YUDU….
thanks for the suggestions!!! I know we’re going to be using these for the dice sets for the kids, and maybe for the adults’ shotglasses… maybe. the transfers sound like a neat idea, too!

Oh I see. Sorry, i read leather and assumed you might the pouches instead of the pull string. I’m not sure if it would bunch up correctly with a leather string.
It would probably be cute to iron on a transfer of like two dice picture..or something (just throwing out idea here lol)

What about doing a circular pouch instead? It’s no sew, so it will be easier. Just cut a circle, put some slits in it, and thread the string through.
I think your pouch is darling, however. I would just print out cute tags with something on them and attach them to the bag.
(can you tell I can’t sew a lick?)

the drawstring pouch fits our theme a lot better…
thanks for the ideas! I think I’ll toss these ideas at my FI and see what he thinks. whenever he gets home, of course, lol.
