We are having a small informal ceremony in the middle of no where Alaska and we are on an incredibly tight budget. (<$300 for dress) Luckily I started looking when the limited had all thier bridal on clearance and it totally saved the day. The dress I started with was the limited lace collum dress
It was a lovely dress but the silly origami front looking thing made my already too large chest loo HUGE! and it had a trane, not a large one, but a trane that I knew would tear on branches and get stained all shades of blue and purple while walking through the blueberries to get to the aisle.
Step one was to re-do the bodice, I took it appart completely and removed the entire center section. I traced over some princess front seams on a shirt that I have which fits me well (also from the limited) and tried to make the shape as similar as possible. The result can be seen in the picture below.
I also completely cut off the trane and made it floor length… but thats not all! I am a grad student and one night during a 3am research induced homework coma I thought it would be a great idea to made the dress a convertable dress. only instead of taking something off like the long to short dresses I would essentially design a full circle bustle which folded the dress in half and added some poof at the same time. With some buttons, a few ‘hook and eye’ closures and one very creatively placed snap I came up with this!
And a full length picture with a gold sash instead. I am still deciding what colour sash to use and could use some imput on that. Out colours are willow green, brown paper bag, and robins egg blue.
Please excuse the mess we are in the middle of moving and all of my wedding things (including our mirror) have been banished to the storage room.
