    We can't afford to rent a chuppah (wedding canopy), but we'd love to have a nice draped chuppah for our ceremony. Can any DIY-savvy bees help me figure out how to turn this:

    into something like this:

    The chuppah we have free access to is 4'x6' and 7'6'' high. To me, that sounds so big, I can't even begin to fathom how much tulle we might need to decorate it! Anyone have any ideas?

    Drape the top frame with tulle- 4'&4'&6'&6'= 20 feet plus some extra for draping-say 25 feet

    Drape the 4 upright poles-7'6" x 4=30 feet-plus some ectra to tie in a loop on the top-35 feet

    Therefore 60 feet or 20 yards should do.

    Add 4 of whatever you choose to decorate the 4 corners.

    @julies1949: Thanks for your help! For that top part, do you think I need to go to a fabric store and get it cut to size? I've seen the rolls of tulle they sell at craft stores...I was thinking that might work for the sides, but probably not for the top.

    @julies1949: ditto

    As far as purchasing the tulle, you should be able to get it for just about $1 per yard and I would go for the yardage as opposed to the rolls becasue the rolls are more narrow. I got my tulle here: http://www.rycotrim.com/contact-us.htm and you can call and place an order to be shipped. As a bonus, the staff/owner are pretty crafty and they can also offer advise. It's an owner operated business and I find their prices on tulle and ribbon to be cheaper than the big box stores. They also have tulle of varying stiffness and quality. I don't think you will need the fancy tulle for a chuppa as no one will be touching it to know how soft it is.

    Good luck in your endeavor.

    @slicey19: I also think premeasured cut tulle would be better than the rolls. I just can't totally visualize how big each piece will need to be cut so it will completely cover the top and each of the poles.

    The top I assume should be a little bigger than 4x6 so there will be so overhang...but does anyone have any idea of how wide I should have the tulle cut for the poles? I know they're 7'6'' tall, but I'm not sure exactly how much tulle it would take so that the poles won't show through.
