I really don't think it looks bad, if I didn't know the look that you were going for I would think these were great!
could it have something to do with the surface that you're stamping on? perhaps you should try some different surfaces?
Thanks! They'd be fine but I wanted them to look a little more colored in (if that makes sense). I was stamping them on my living room table (flat and hard = perfect, right?) but maybe I should try elsewhere. Thanks for the advice!
try unfolding the napkin partially so only a thin part will between the table and stamp.
@Captain013: Definitely helped, thank you! But unfortuantely the ink still isn't as filled in as I'd like. I'm thinking it's the inkpad, it doesn't seem as wet as it should be even though it's brand new. I think I'll try Stazon and see where it gets me. Otherwise, it looks like I'm printing these bad boys. Not my favorite idea but oh well.
What does it look like on plain paper? or with a different stamp? Just curious. Sometimes stamps do need to warmup a bit, you may try to get the stamp wet with ink then let it dry and repeat so the stamp will be flat and fill in any voids. Thats really all I can think. It maybe the ink pad, try swipping the stamp instead of blotting... ?
@Captain013: Great ideas Captain. I would also unfold the napkin and try another ink. Maybe go for a whiter white or a different brand? I found that some inks work great on one material but not another.
Thanks ladies, I've ordered a Stazon pad so my fingers are crossed! I don't know if the stamp may be the culprit but it is a polymer stamp, not rubber, so I don't know if that makes a difference or not.
@jnfursttobe:HI! So glad I could inspire you!!! And you're my neighbor!!!! Staz-on is awesome...I used versafine for another project, but staz-on is the best for clear results. Maybe it was the rubber stamp? I've seen a lot of posts complaing about these issues using rubber stamps. I used the clear ones and they seem to just stamp better.
Good luck! Let me know if you need any help :) I finished all my projects and I'm BORED! LOL!
@TheFutureMrsLamkin: yes, of all the DIY napkins that I've seen yours are the best! Yea, I'm hoping it was the ink and not the stamp but I'm afraid that the stamp's "polymer-ness" (instead of the rubber or clear stamps) may also be to blame. (sigh) Another SJ Bride!! Unfortunately my fiancee and I are stationed in Hawaii right now (he's from SJ originally and most of our friends are there so we opted for SJ instead of HI) and won't be back until January for cake tastings, photog meetings, etc. :( Haha wish I wasn't on the other side of the country, I could definitely use your DIY expertise and help!!
@jnfursttobe:Awe, thanks dear! Wow! Hawaii??? I'd love to go there! If you need help with vendors and such when you get back, let me know. Obviously by that point I will have reviews of my own as well :)
@TheFutureMrsLamkin: Thanks! That would be great, I'll definitely have to hit you up when the time gets closer. I'm so excited for you, your big day's right around the corner!
@jnfursttobe: I had problems stamping when I was prepping. I took my materials to PaperPresentation. I don't know how far you are from the city. Anyhow, the lady over there took 5minutes and showed me what I was doing wrong. If you can't come into the city, go to Michael's or Joan's and someone will show you. Good luck. I gocco'ed my napkins. All 1,000 of them. I used Mrs. Cupcake as an inspiration :)
@jnfursttobe:Seriously...It's freak out time! LOL! I'm still trying to get one of bridesmaids to get a dress; decided that my crinoloine is not puffy enough, so I'm buying another one; have no idea what's going on (if anything) for a shower/party; no bachy party plans yet; bills, bills, bills.....UGH! And FI just bought a brand new PS3...I could rip his balls off right now!
Anyway...please don't hesitate to reach out for some help when you get back to SJ. I'm in Mays Landing, so I'm a hop, skip and jump from you!
@bRooklynRocks: great advice! Sadly my craft store options are limited here in Hawaii (oh Michael, Joann and A.C.Moore...how I miss you so, you have no idea!!) so I may try that out in January when I head back to Jersey.
@TheFutureMrsLamkin: Oh. My. GOD. you poor thing!! Argh, I wish I was in Jersey even MORE now to help you out! I'm actually an event coordinator here in the Aloha state so I know how absolutely insane and stressful this time can be. I'm sure your bridal party (and fiancee) are great but right now I want to shake them all and say "KNOCK IT OFF, YOU! GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER."
@jnfursttobe:LOL! I finally got a call from my MOH about a shower and the bachy party...really??? Way to be last minute! I thought this shit was a secret, but it wasn't even planned yet! YIKES! I'm SUPOSSED to meet up with my BM on thursday to find a dress....yeah, we shall see. Something always comes up! Girl is gonna go naked to my wedding!

Earlier today..
"Woohoo! The stamp for my cocktail napkins has arrived!! Surely the easiest of my DIY projects, the hand stamping of 400 cocktail napkins will be a breeze. How hard can it be? Stamp in ink, stamp on napkin. Repeat. Let's do this!"
20 minutes (and 14 napkins) later...
"WHAT IS HAPPENING?!?! WHY IS STAMPING SO HARD?!!!" Alas, my "simple" napkin stamping DIY project has turned on me. Instead of the beautiful, brightly colored results that inspired me (as seen on @TheFutureMrsLamkin 's post about stamping cocktail napkins, which look fabulous by the way!), this happened...
Sorry for the shadow! But I had to take the pics up close so you'd actually be able to see the stamp - that's how light and not colorful the stamp turned out. Granted I am going for the rustic look, but...I still want people to see the birds, names and date.
Any advice fellow bees?? I used the following supplies:
- Custom stamp from Etsy
- Inkadinkado's Pigment Ink Pad in Linen White*
- Cocktail Napkins from GiantPartyStore.com (200 napkins for $5?! Done.)
*I'm guessing this is where I went wrong. I purchased this brand/type of ink because of its waterproof capabilities, but I really had to press hard to get the stamp fully inked. Thoughts?
Thanks guys!
