She made it look so easy, I was tempted to try. Hmmm, maybe it's not too late. :o)

Hi All,
Has anybody decorated their own display (ie fake cake)? I ordered custom cake toppers for our wedding cake since i thought we would have the cake on display during the reception. However we were just told today that our cake needs to be refridgerated the ENTIRE time until it is served (it has a creamy dairy filling and it's an outdoor wedding in Florida in Oct). If we have the baker deorate a fake cake for us it's going to cost 85% of what our normal cake will cost plus the cost of the sheet cakes to serve. Not to mention that the display cake would be pretty small.
It's a really simple design with white fondant and a colored ribbon on the bottom. I'm an avid baker and have worked with fondant before but does anybody have any experience doing this? I'm not sure what the "fake" cake would be made of, foam or cardboard? Any other solutions would help!
thanks!
