I'm wondering if any bay area brides have DIYed their flowers and what local resources you used...
also, people charge way too much for flowers! :) all we're doing is my bouquet and 7 bouts...if anyone DIYed their own flowers and is intersted in making a little extra cash on the side by doing mine please let me know :)
hey cool, i just found this site and it looks pretty interesting. I registered just to respond to your message. I'm in SF also and would love to help with your DIY flowers (i'm planning to do my own as well). I've done 3 bouquets for me and my friends for a halloween costume and it turned out pretty well.... hmm can't figure out how to upload the pic.
would love to share ideas etc for wedding in the SF bay area!
I sent you a PM. DIY is totally do able and there are a lot of great places to get flowers around the Bay if you do a little research before hand and order them. I did my own flowers for my wedding and I won't lie, it was work, but it got done and I was happy!
Check out Huckleberry Karen. She's a florist and she runs a DIY workshop every now and then and shows you how to do flowers for your event. She charges a fee, but it is well worth it IMO.
Definitely second the DIY workshop with Karen. I went when she last hosted one (March, I think?) and it was so worth it. It's an affordable class and you learn so much! I did my flowers for my wedding (earlier this May) and it was very satisfying for the perfectionist in me :)

Then I suggest going on Localharvest.org to find farms in your area (this is the way to get the most bang for your buck - and fresh, beautiful, seasonal flowers).
I am planning on doing my own flowers too. I searched google for bouquets that I liked and found several. I ordered 70 burgundy and 70 orange calla lilies from flowersandfreshness.com for under $200 and they will be delivered 3 days before the wedding in time for them to hydrate and bloon. I am so excited about doing the flowers ourselves and can't wait for them to get here. I will definitely post pics once my DIY wedding is all over with.
