I’m considering doing my own hair and makeup for the wedding. I want to wear my hair down and wavy, and since my wedding will be in January in Florida I don’t need to worry about humidity ruining it. Also, I have NEVER once been happy when having my hair done professionally. I have very thick hair, and I know I can curl it and make it last. I’m also very into makeup and I’d rather spend money on nice, high quality makeup I can keep…not drop $75 or more for a makeup artist for one day.
Has anyone else considered doing their own hair and/or makeup? Any advice?

I’m doing my own makeup but not my hair. I just recommend watching a LOT of youtube makeup tutorials on bridal makeup! You don’t always have to spend a lot on makeup to end up with amazing products.

Pixiwoo on youtube did a wedding week recently with tips on wedding make up. I think I’ll be too nervous to do makeup but found it informative.

I’m probably doing my own makeup. You should check out Beelow and wynnetaylorwedding on here – they did AMAZING jobs on their own. My inspirations actually!

@Pinkmoon: Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll check them out.
@ThinkingOutLoud: I’ll definitely be checking out videos for ideas. My two favorite beauty bloggers, http://makeupbytiffanyd.blogspot.com, and http://www.maskcara.com, have a ton of ideas on makeup for photographs, natural makeup, and just general beauty tips.
@gingerfrazzle: Thanks for the suggestion!

@SophieB3: Hair and make-up is one thing that I am fine splurging on. It is one thing to do great make-up and an entirely different thing to do great make-up that stands up to the stresses of the day (sweating, crying, etc.) and looks great in pictures. The same goes for hair in my opinion, though to a lesser degree. It is not something I want to deal with at all.

I’m planning on doing my own makeup, but not my hair. I’d rather look “regular” than end up with makeup I’m not in love with (but I think I can do a pretty decent job, with some practice).
Making my hair pretty is not a skill that I have, though I’d love to save money on that too. Thinking about using a beauty school.

@MrsPanda99: I can understand not wanting to deal with it at all. I’ve gone back and forth on that too, and I may price out having a stylist come to the house. Honestly though, since my wedding is in January, and I know I can make my hair hold a wavy style all day in Alabama in the middle of the summer, I’m sure I can make it hold all day even if I do it myself! 🙂 As far as makeup goes, I’m a HUGE fan of eyeshadow primer (Urban Decay Primer Potion), and I’ve been told the Urban Decay makeup setting spray is magical too! I’ll definitely be using a primer under my makeup, as well as a long wearing foundation. And waterproof mascara and eye liner is a must!
@jdhall89: Using a beuty school is such a good idea! I’d love to hear how that goes. I’m sure it would save you a ton of money!

@SophieB3: I also like to feel a bit pampered on my wedding day (or I assume I will). It is nice to have someone come to your house (or the venue) and do everything for you. I don’t want to have to think about anything except memorizing my vows…I don’t want to read a piece of paper! Lol.
