I am a very natural/plain person and i am thinking about doing my own hair and makeup. i dont normally wear makeup and i have hair down to the small of my back and my ahir is always straight and down. I dont want a lot of makeup on or some crazy updo for my wedding. i am a very natural person so i am thinking some loose waves and natural looking makeup.

my sisters say that i am crazy to do this on my own and should just hire someone. i know i dont have experience in hair (i do makeup because i used to wear makeup). but i just cant justify paying someone $200 to loosly curl my ahir and put a little makeup on.

I am curious to hear some options of other DIY. What would you suggest for me? should i just have someone do it?

another deciding factor..my wedding is on a sunday so there is a wedding at my venue the night before and we cant start decorating until 9am and we are decorating on our own. ceremony starts at 3 and pics start at 2. IS THIS POSSIBLE?!

If you're confident in your on work, then yea, just do it yourself.  I'm having someone do my hair, however, I will do my own makeup.

I'm doing my own makeup but I'm having someone do my hair. $200 sounds a little insane though. I'm getting an updo for $70 so I can't see why having someone curl your hair loosely would cost so much. I'm comfortable on the makeup front, so I'm not worried about doing it, but I don't have a lot of confidence with my hair, hence the hair stylist.

I'd say if you're stressed about doing it yourself, hire someone. But look around for a cheaper price!

i don't wear makeup either, nor do i really do anything with my hair on a daily basis. because of this, i really have no clue how to do either hair or makeup and i don't feel like i have much of a choice. of course, i'm going to tell my make up person this because i don't want to look like i'm not myself. but the main reason i'm getting it done by a pro- it's my wedding day and i can!

what! no, you certainly are not crazy for wanting to look like yourself at your wedding!  if you will feel most comfortable in natural hair/makeup, then by all means wear it.  there's nothing wrong with doing this, especially if your wedding is not extremely formal.  my wedding WILL be formal and i'll still be doing my own makeup (not hair though, but nonetheless i won't be doing some mad updo! not my style. hair will be half-down and in loose waves).  i have never liked eyeliner or eye shadow, glitter, and what not, and every day put on just some concealer over my intense dark undereye circles with a soft pink blush on my cheeks to give my pallid complexion some color. sometimes, light mascara. that's it.  i think nature made my face pretty enough, thank you very much. :P at most i'll add some lipstick to this repertoire on my wedding day.  i'm totally with you on this. every time i've worn a lot of makeup, i've felt so uncomfortable, unlike myself, and frankly, less pretty than with less makeup on.  if someone told me i was nuts for not paying someone hundreds to do to my face what i do every day, i'd ignore them.  you're totally within your right here and it makes sense.

I went with fairly loose curls and it cost me like $45.00-and it was excellent!  I'd say don't do it yourself because it probably won't last as well as if you went to the salon and had it done professionally.  I did my own makeup too-go for that for sure.  Shop around for better hair prices! :)

Do a trial to see how it goes and show the naysayers!  And if you aren't thrilled with the results look into hiring someone for either or both.  It will be fine.

great advise ladies; thank you! i just dont feel pretty with eye liner and stuff on and my FI agrees. makeup freaks him out :) haha!

i still cant decide what to do about my hair though.

Has anyone here used any of those large curlers? do they work well/stay? i was thinking i could just have my hair in curlers while i decorate and then i could put on some light makeup and then im done.

If you need some extra reassurance, check out Mrs. Perfume's posts! I'm pretty sure she did her own makeup, and she looked stunning!

Oh that's totally doable.  I did my own hair and makeup.  (Well, my mom and SIL did my hair...)  but we didn't use professionals.  I was happy because I looked like me on my wedding day, not some dolled up make-up version of me.  Go for it!

If you feel comfortable doing your own hair and makeup, do it! I can't really do my own hair (the style I want is a little complicated) but I am 98% sure now I'm doing my own makeup. Maybe someone else could do it better, but I think I can get by! I couldn't stand to spend the money.

Jumbo hot rollers are great, just remember you still have to use a little hair spray and if your hair is really fine they may not stay long.  Youtube for videos there are tons on there for hair and makeup, whatever you need really.

do it! just ... do a few trial runs ahead of time to assure yourself you can get the look you want in the time you'll have without too much stress. And then be ready to bow out of the decorating party when you need to go home, shower, slap on some makeup and get your hair curling. :)

Im not confident to do either, I do my own makeup every day but to me a professional would know best.

It also helps that one of my BMs is my hairdresser anyway so shes going to do it. YAY!

It really depends on what you want and how good you are at doing it!

I wear pretty basic make-up most of the time and I don't do a whole lot with my hair--which is especially why I'd like someone to do my hair and make-up for me, because it's not something that I have much practice with. That doesn't mean, however, that I'm going to wear a beehive and four layers of eyeliner. :)
