So we are on a budget, a very small one. We hope to stay under 9-10k, with the honeymoon inculded.
I am creative and so are my friends and family. So I dont mind DIY, The problem is that I got a FANTASTIC deal on my local Knight of Columbus hall. ($300 dollars for the whole day) Problem is…it is ugly as sin. It has ugly long cafiteria tables and ugly floors and ugly popcorn celing tiles with flourescent lights. And a few glass case bulletin boards I have to cover up. The closest venus in cost is $1000 for four hours and we are not allowed to have alcohol. So because of budget and family size the KoC Hall is our only and best option.
I know other brides here have used VFW and Lodge halls. Can I see pictures for inspiration? I just need hope that it can still look half decent….I dont need blog worthy just something cute!

could you keep the flourescents off and rely on windows and candles/lanterns on the table for some nice lighting? If the ceiling lights are off the flaws in the ceiling in general will be less noticable.
You can get lots of flowers on a small budget at your local flower market (i’m using either LA or SF). You can get flowers for about a quarter of what you would pay a florist, but you have to be willing to do DIY or get friends to help.
As far as the tables, even simple linens will improve them, especially if you can get table runners or colored napkins to add a pop of fun color.

@Ibblet: tables are easy you can get tablecloths for that – look at renting or even hit up cheap dollar store type shops for cheap ones. Also you could look at draping to hide it – see here for lots of ideas https://www.google.com.au/search?q=draping+the+ceiling&client=firefox-a&hs=gUl&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=WjHfUdxnhMKRBajIgegH&ved=0CCwQsAQ&biw=1440&bih=713
P was right about the lighting, keep it low with candles and lanterns, i know a lot of brides have gotten packages for uplighting – it’s not common in Aus so i have no idea of pricing but it’s worth a look.
Might be a good idea to get your birdal party or any creative friends together at the venue to have a brainstorming session. i’m sure with a little thinking outside the box you can make it work =)
