DIY Ice Cream Bar…what did/would you do?

I’ve always wanted to go to a wedding that had one of these! I’d add whipped cream to your list, and maybe those cherries that people seem to like.

As far as the scooping situation, I’d either have it pre-scooped or have someone designated to scoop for you. While most people, I’d hope, wouldn’t get carried away, there would be those few people that keep scooping and scooping and scooping…

Are you just having one flavor of ice cream?

@mrsqueenb:  I haven’t hosted an ice cream bar, but I’ve been to one with around 100 people. The ice cream wasn’t prescooped and it took forever to get food. By the time the end of the line came around the ice cream was depleted because some people went crazy. Individual scoops would be awesome. It sounds like you have a ton of toppings, I might even consider cutting a few out– like the graham crumbs or Reese’s. You could consider adding whipped cream or maraschino cherries if you want to make it a sundae bar!

I would also recommend having it pre-scooped. We are also considering doing this and the place we are getting the ice cream is letting us use coolers with dry ice to keep it cool for our summer wedding next year.

@mrsqueenb:  You should probably have a few extra, but you could also have someone hand out the ice cream, kind of like how people hand out cake. Saves your guests from having to “hunt” for the flavor they want if they just say “I’d like a vanilla,” as well as having pre-labelled stacks only to have someone knock it over or mix it all up.

@mrsqueenb:  You could do part of them pre-scooped for someone to hand out, and then have someone scooping to refill as flavors run out (I guess like at those parties you see in movies where the waiter wander around with their little trays of hors d’oeuvres and get refills when needed).

I think a risk you could run into with pre-scooping all of the ice cream could be with your random flavor, which your guests may not be as inclined to try it as you may want them to, and that could lead to a lot of unncecssary waste!
