So, I was thinking of using Illustrator for designing my invitations. Has anyone that’s done this before have any suggestions for another software that might work better? I’m sure that Illustrator is totally fine, but just wanted to check out there if anyone’s done this before. Any printing tips?

I designed mine in Photoshop, but Illustrator is basically the same if you’re just doing any simple design + text layout. I just used a pattern in the background and layers over it to do it… see here.
One thing I did do was try font after font after font until I found the look I was going for. I may still change them, but I really liked how these two went together well in my design!

We did our own invitations, designed on Illustrator and then we letterpressed them ourselves. I can’t say too much about it because my fiance was really in charge of designing and executing, but he used Illustrator for our design.

I think Illustrator is probably the best program for DIY invitations if you know how to use it. Photoshop is photo-editing software and isn’t really designed to create something completely original (better for piecing together parts than creating a new whole).

I’ve used it before to create my portfolio, just wanted to see if there was something else out there that ya’ll have used. I really like invites I’ve seen on Etsy that are just graphic with text/fonts, so I don’t think it will be too complicated:
@cinemaparadiso – nice invites!
