You could look through the DIY section to get some ideas. You can also buy invitation kits from places like Michaels, if you go with a coupon you could save quite a bit. I go tmy invites from Anns Bridal bargains. I pay about $140 for 150 invites because I had a coupon. If you shop around you might be surprised what good deals you come across
I downloaded a template from downloadandprint.com and went from there. I customized everything: words, colors, layout, etc. There's free templates on there and also templates you can download for $25. Or you can do what PP said and buy some from Michaels or Target, etc. There's lots of options...you just have to search for them and that can be a headache sometimes (or at least it was for me - lol!).
I got mine from Vistaprint.com. I don't have a huge budget, so I was originally going to get one of those DIY kits from Michael's or Wal-Mart. But, I'm glad I went with Vistaprint. I got professional invites for $23! They would've been $18, but I wanted linen paper instead of matte (which is included for free). The invitations came with envelopes. For RSVP cards, Vistaprint has a promotional thing going where they give 100 free postcards for free. So, I ordered those, too. Now, I'm all set. I think, with shipping, everything was about $31. Check it out!
I loved, loved, LOVED pocketfolds, but as I continued to look at them, I would be paying at least $3 a piece! That's just crazy and not in our budget. So, DIY, here we go! Check out www.cardsandpockets.com I got 100 pocketfolds, mats, outer envelopes and RSVP envelopes for $140 (including shipping, which was $12 and some change). Then, I bought the cardstock for the invites and pocket inserts for $7 at Michael's (200 sheets). So, all in all, I am spending about $150 for super elegant and modern invitations!
@Kenic315: I'm doing something similar!
I found the patterned paper I want for all of the mattes and backgrounds on the menus/programs in a book at 54 sheets/$11.99, so I bought a bunch of that. I'm also looking into getting the pocketfolds at cardsandpockets, otherwise just buying the cardstock/ribbon and making it. There are a ton of DIY tutorials out there. Also, cardsandpockets gives you the dimensions of the pocketfolds on their website, so you don't necessarily have to order them. Best of luck!
