The thing about the waterline is that it will ALWAYS run towards the corner of your eye after a couple of hours. It just cannot be avoided, sorry :( If you want something noticeable on your waterline, try a "gel" eyeliner (NOT liquid). It will be more bold, but you will still need to re-apply for it to stay all day.
use a waterproof liner and then set it with eyeshadow of the same color.. so line the inside of your eye, then take a little square brush, dip it into the eye shadow and place it onto a section of your eyeliner.. keep going until you have covered the entire lined area. some of it will still collect in the corner of your eye, but it will stay put longer
Thanks! MAC Fluidline is a gel, but since I never tried a gel liner, I didn't want to go out a buy another liner that just sits in my makeup bag!
I don't apply liner on my waterline, but this is the best dang eyeliner I have ever used, and you can get it at Target:

This stuff does not smear, it does not budge!
Ok I have to admit I am a lil snobby when it comes to drugstore makeup LOL..I only stick to MAC,smashbox.urbandecay.two faced things like that BUT i have never bought a better long lasting eyeliner in my life..Wet and wild makes it It comes in a little pot with a brush..Its glides on sooo easy and stays ALL day ..Its called Mega Eyes Creame Eyeliner and it is like 3.00 I never go with out this stuff Its great and to me works better than mac Good Luck ;)
I would definitely put eyeshadow over the eyeliner to set it. I think that's the look your going for anyway, according to all the pics you posted. they all have eyeshadow under the eye. That should help make it stay. To keep your eyeliner sharp, you may have to repeat this eyeliner/eyeshadow application.
to set the makeup around your eye even further, I would put a little bit of excess face powder under your eyes to catch the fall out of the darker shadow before you apply your under eye eyeshadow. that way when your done you can sweep it all off with a brush and be left with nothing but clean skin. this will also help set all of your makeup around your eye and eliminate any running. good luck!
fluidline is great for the waterline. I also really love aura Mercier Caviar Eyeliner. It's a cream formula and for me it hold all day on the inner rim.

Thanks for all the advice! I went to Sephora on sunday and bought the Makeup Forever Kohl Pencil in deep black. Suitable for the waterline, it's a gentle formula (I wear contacts) and it's long lasting, smudge proof. So I applied it, and the color was very rich, vibrant, it did stay quite a few hours without needing to reapply. I did notice a little smudging but that could of been the makeup I was already wearing. Haven't put it on today, but I will keep you posted. I might try to set it with eyeshadow next time.
are you sure you want to apply your eyeliner there? it only makes your eyes appear smaller. just a thought! if you still do, i really think that i haven't used any better liner than smashbox pot liner. althought I haven't used Mac's, I've heard it's very comparable.
Try Urban Decay 24/7 Zero eyeliner. It works wonders! Line it then smudge with eyeshadow. Love it! But since you already bought MUF eyeliner, just add eyeshadow to set it. It should work.
I used Urban decay ink for eyes for when I have done the smoky eye thing and it works great...either from Sephora or Ulta!

Definately use a eyeshadow powder in the same color on top of the liner on your waterline. Also, I like to use an angled brush to line underneath the waterline with powder.
I like the double-ended smudger brush from Smashbox also.
Some people like to use this type of brush. I can't get them to work as well as the angled and smudger brush.
Wow, thanks for all the suggestions. I did wear the eyeliner I purchased today, the Makeup forever Kohl pencil, and yes, it smudged:(. It lasted a while but not long enough. I was about to buy the Urban Decay 24/7 and put it down...ahhh. Wonder if I can return the kohl pencil at sephora? Anyone familiar with their return policy? To answer the question on if I think it'll make my eyes look smaller, well I want them to look defined and I don't mind if they look smaller, I think my eyes are large in size so I think I can pull off the look:) Thanks Ladies!!!!
I would not recommend the Urban Decay pencil. The colors are neat, but definitely don't stay on 24/7.
I use fluidline by Mac and I believe my MUA used it on me for my wedding--I love it and it stays on even when I wash my face at night.
WOW, I'm happy to hear all these ideas! I wear eyeliner and is looking for a differnt brand I use liquid but want to try the gel.
Those are great pictures. Makes me want to go out and get extensions today- maybe next week:-)
I've used liner on the lower inside lid for years and my best buys have been drugstore pencils which are soft enough to leave color when moistened- and hard enough not to leave color when dry. "Prestige" is very inexpensive... but again, I only use this for the lower lid as the majority of my liner is permanent.
Hi girls! here is an update...I tried the trick with a waterproof mascara applied with a small brush and set with eyeshadow. It lasted all day! I also was able to return the eyeliner I got at Sephora, no questions asked! So cool!!! I ended up purchasing the Clinique gel liner in Dark Brown and I really like it too. I wanted to try a gel liner since I heard it's great for the waterline. It stays on a long time but does eventually fade, but at least no racoon eyes! Oh...and it comes with a little brush applicator.
I've tried everything out there. But because I not only have oily eyelids but very watery eyes. I use the BOBBI BROWN gel liner and top it off with L'Oreal HIP KOHL LINER (you can get this at any drugstore). The kohl liner comes with it's own applicator but because it's a pigment you have to very careful when applying. I usually dab it on top of the gel to prevent the pigments from falling onto my face. Once you set the pigment on top of whatever liner you use, it will stay put.
But then again, if you are a cryer, WHATEVER you decide to use, you still have to be super careful. Make sure you don't let your tears run down the middle of your face or the outer corners. Let it well up in your eyes and tilt your head so the tear only falls from the inner corner and have a hanky handy to dab/catch the tear .. I repeat .. from the inner corners!
makeup forever's aqua eyes are PERFECT for lining the inner rims of your eyes. the have a HUGE assortment of colors, they blend well, are super creamy and stay put, even if you cry! i have them in a handful of colors and love love love them. you can find them sephora.
Fluidline from MAC is ok - I use it more for lining my top lid.
I like Urban Decay 24/7 in zero as well. I don't have problems with it fading for a long time and it takes like two seconds to touch up. The thing I will point out is that in the last pic, maybe the last two, it doesn't look like either (esp. Kim Kardashian) has anything on their waterline. When I do a smoky eye I take a super fine, sharp angle brush moistened in a powde and line directly under my eyelashes right at the base. It took me a while to get it where it wasn't too thick, but it gives the same effect and it doesn't smear, tears and all. You can use any color. One of my favorites to do his with is molten from Ulta. It's a supe dark brown with a little bit of a gold superfine glitter.
I have only used eye liner on my waterline a few times. I find it doesn't really stay since it is so wet. Guess that's why it's called a waterline :P I have read though that lining it in white will make your eyes appear bigger.

I've decided I will be applying my own makeup for the wedding day. I'm not a professional makeup artist by any means, but I do a pretty good job, and lets face it, it will help keep my budget down:). So every weekend, since I have more time, I've been practicing different looks for the big day. My favorite is the smoky shadow, with the soft lips.. a la Kim Kardashian. I will be going out today to pick up Smashbox Photofinish Primer, I've heard such great reviews! But I need advice on an eye liner that stays put for the waterline (inner rims). All the liners I've tried either are barely noticeable, or they run all over my face after a few hours. Any suggestions? Anyone use fluidline by MAC?
