whoa, that's pretty cool! I like it! definitely gives an interesting visual effect.
I like them too...my dad went all out! Still not sold on the photos, but we'll see.
i think they're beautiful!
the lantern part gives the classic feel, but the photos definately personalizes it. as a guest i would totally sit down at the table and be like, "whoa" and then go around to see all the pictures.
love love love love love. We're doing something similar, but with pieces of our favorite artwork instead of our engagement pictures. What kind of paper did he print your photos on?
The pictures make it personal. Either way it is a really neat idea and will look great on your wedding day.
Awww that's adorable! I would love a centrepiece like that on my table if I were at a wedding! Your dad is so sweet!
My dad loves making picture frames, so he just glued 4 frames together with a piece of wood to fill out the corners. Then, I think he printed the colored photos on tracing paper (but vellum would work also). He then put the paper between two pieces of plastic/glass (so the paper doesn't catch fire) and sliped it into the frames. If you can't use candles, you could just use those tap on lights and skip the plastic/glass all together.
I'm actually thinking I might like these better if the pictures were in black and white or if we used photoshop to turn the photos into sketches and used that. I'll have to play around with it a bit.
Martha did have something similar - hers were triangles. We're doing the same thing with pics of us throughout our relationship! I love it.
I just got off the phone with my dad and he said he actually used tracing paper and then put a transparency in front and behind the paper to protect it and help it stand up.
I think they might be a little small though. He made them to fit 4"x6" pictures so it's about 5 1/2"x6 1/2". I think I might put it on some styrofoam or something to make it a bit taller...maybe a 4 inch block to make it just over 10" high. That way, the flowers around the outside don't cover the pictures (should I choose to use the pics).
We are actually using this same basic idea. We are actually printing our photos on vellum though in black and white or sepia. Also one side will be the table number and we are only doing a triangle with three sides instead of 4.
Love it!
So original! I think people will be very impressed and talk about them for a long time!
That's awesome!
As a guest, I would think that was pretty cool. :)
i love them... i like them either way you decide to go... it is a great idea
I know it's been a while, but here is a photo of the final product. The only thing left to do, is the florist (a family friend) will be doing an arangement around the bottom and there will be tea candles around the outside (and obviously, the whole thing will be lit up like the original photos).
As you can see, we decidede to use black and white photos (photoshopped to look more like sketches than photos) and then have each table be named after a wine out of our wine journal. Then on the other side, we wrote a few words about that wine, the meal we had with it and why it's important to us (i.e. drank on our one year anniversary).
My Dad thinks the bottom is a little plain, but I think once the flowers are around it, it would be too busy if there were pictures or writing on the bottom portions. What do you think?
P.S. Isn't my Dad amazing?!?!
Your dad is amazing. Those are fabulous! I have not seen anything like those before, with the sketches, wonderful.
They look great! I'm so glad you posted them. I was hoping you would!!

So...I went to my dad with an idea for some square lantern centerpieces. He came back with these. I was thinking just a plain lantern, but he printed our engagement photos on the side of the lantern. What do you think?
The first photo is my inspiration photo.
