The most memoriable place cards I’ve seen at a party , weding or otherwise , were paper butterflies on the wine glassof your seat. There was a seating chart and then you found your place at the table. it was very cute , and easy. you can also use almost any base with a wire swirl as a place card holder , hopefully this will help!

We are considering  making white chocolate daisy suckers (we have a daisy themed wedding).  With ribbon and a tag with the guests name and table.  The suckers will be placed in flower pots and guests will find their sucker, pull it from the pot, and then go to the table where they are assigned.

We only have three menu options, so the waiters will walk around to each table and ask each guest "chicken, beef, or vegetarian" and then serve each table.

What about luggage tags hung on the chair.  You could use different colors or a pattern to signify their meal choice.   If you have scraps of paper, you can use a luggage tag punch.
