I thought the same thing but as they sit around for a while they seemed to loosen up so I'm hot gluing mine (just to be safe...I'd hate to go to place them on the big day and have them falling apart and causing problems). Glue guns are super cheap and it only took me a couple minutes to glue them and stick them back in! :)
I didn't hot glue mine and they are doing just fine. I used hydrangeas and they have been sitting in a box for several months now.
@SuperShopper: after how long did you notice they loosened up?
@noritake22: thanks for the feedback!
I say glue them, wouldn't you rather have the security of knowing they will stay put?
i did fake flowers just for my trial run and they were nice and secure in there at first. but then after i kept having to pick it up or movie it, after a week the flowers started falling off. so i would say definitely glue
I used glue for the silk flower one that I made. It's still holding strong about 10 months later.
I didn't glue mine. Made them about 2-3 months in advance of wedding. And the day of the wedding my flower girl did everything this that thing and nothing.
But a little would not hurt. It's just a little
I'm planning on using silk flowers but because I don't know anything about kissing balls, I'm going to Michaels and making them do it for me. It's pretty cheap. You pay the florist a third or a fourth of what you paid for the materials.
@ALL - silly question: how did you glue it? Do you glue the stem and then stick it in? Or do you stick the stem in, pull it out and then put glue in the hole and then put the stem back in?
@oracle: i made the hole first. i found the hard way that if i didnt make the hole first, things got messy!
i will be making these and also plan to use glue gun.. i dont want to risk having the flowers fall out

I'm curious if I need to hot glue the individual flowers as I stick them in the styrofoam. They seem to 'stick' pretty secure by just pushing them in the foam. Is there really a need to hot glue anything?
