Shanay84:  Start now 😀

Trust me, everything takes SOOOO much longer than you think it will, and it will be wonderful to have as much as possible done and out of the way 🙂

There is no ‘too soon’ with DIY as long as you’re firm in your vision and not working with anything perishable like food or real flowers.

As long as you are sure that’s what you want (and aren’t frequently changing your mind)- then I don’t think there is a “too soon”.  I got engaged and had 1.5 years before the wedding (down to less than 4 months now…eekkk) and started crafting things almost immediately.  I knew a lot of DIY was going to be involved so I didn’t want to cram it all at the end (it gets hectic with vendor follow ups, meetings, etc.) so best to have the DIY things already done!  Plus, if something doesn’t come out quite as expected, you still have time for a re-do.

A year goes by faster then you think so I say get going!

Agree with PPs – as long as you’re pretty set on what you want, I’d get started now. We have less than a month to go and I’m still so early in my DIY projects because I kept changing my mind and felt like I had so much time! It’s hard to balance all the projects with my regular life + all the vendor meetings, payments, tracking down RSVPs, etc… starting early means you have one less thing to focus on when it is crunch time.

The things that might be “too soon” are anything that has to do with the number of guests since RSVPs are typically one of the last things you’ll finalize, but if you already know or have a rough idea then go for it!

I would second start now.  I did a lot of DIY projects and started at least that early.  My wedding is now in 3 weeks and there are a few things I thought about that didn’t get done, and they are never going to.  I even did my streamer wands for the exit way in advanced- just made more than enough to accomendate for however many people rsvped back (if I had waited until last week when RSVPs were due there is no way that I would have done them- too much to do).  I would do everything you can possibly due (anything not perishable) early on.  Even at 2 months before planning really takes up a lot more time than one would imagine (especially if you have moms that stress out at every detail.. haha), and one month before unless you have the help of several very good friends, I wouldn’t even bother trying

We did our escort cards, guest book, invites, table names, cupcake stands, banners…. I only got married 2 weeks ago and I already can’t remember.

Shanay84:  eeek! This thread makes me nervous.  I have 8.5 months but can’t do much until I’ve got MOH dress as that’ll set the main colour and don’t want to get her dress until I’ve got mine so it’s not too similar or too different to the style/levelof posh of my dress. Aaaannndd IiI’m not going dress shopping until weekend after next and mighy hate all the dresses. .. aaaaah! Now I’ve freaked myself out!

Shanay84:  it’s definitely going to be blue but not entirely sure what shade as it’ll depend which dresses are available/suit her.  We only got engaged in February and weekend after next is the first time me, my MOH and sister are all free for dress shopping.
