My FI thinks I'm officially nuts. After finishing my Cobalt Swarovski heels I jumped right into strassing anther pair to possibly use for the rehersal. I'm using Volcano Swarovski crystals in sizes ranging from 6ss to 20ss to strass these Jessica Simpson JP-Lopix pumps. I'm using a slightly different strassing technique this time and I think it's giving me a cleaner look. It's hard to take good pictures of this crystal inside but I did my best. The pictures really don't do it justice though.

    Thanks ladies!

@CrispyRN:  I did the borders over two days, which was a lot faster because I used the three smallest sizes and it's only one crystal deep. On the cobalt shoes I did a three crystal deep border with the 5ss. Last time I started with the largest size of crystal and worked down to the smallest size, this time I put them all on at the same time creating somewhat of a pattern. It seemed to go much faster and looks a bit cleaner.

@unixfairy:  Haha, my mom just told me the same thing. I rarely have time to work on it though. I had some plans fall through this weekend and rather than doing housework like I should have I bejeweled instead, haha.

@couawilou:  Thanks! When do we get to see yours?

@Mrs. Fireworks:  Thank you! I'll have to take them outside once I make some more progress. It's so hard to get good pictures with the crappy lighting in our apartment.

I've wanted to do this to a pair of shoes for forever! Your's look great.

I gotta ask about those crystals- do they change color? Or are you alternating or what? They look amazing in photos, i'm so interested in them!

I've never heard of these crystals before... are there other colours that are colour changing too? I think I may have found the crystals i'm gonna use!

@cirk:  I think the ones that change are from Swarovski's Effects collection. FI would definitely laugh at me if I commissioned his help for a video, he already thinks I'm nuts for doing this second pair...

     @Novella:  @techie:  Thank you!

I took a quick pic of the progress I made tonight. I finished the left heel yesterday and started going up the back of the shoe. I'm too lazy to go get the nice camera but here's a crappy cellphone pic.

ETA: Snapped another pic that shows the colour change a bit better.

@cirk:  Swarovski AB (Aurora Borealis) crystals have that color changing effect. :) It's a coating that's applied to give it extra shine. Most of their crystals come in two versions of each color, regular and AB.

Here's an example of Meridian Blue AB:

Hello, I LOVE your shoes. LOVE LOVE them. You did  a great job. Wanted to ask you couple of questions what glue did you use for the shoe? For the volcan shoes what colors of swarovski did you use?

@techie:  I think the AB is different than the effects. The AB has a blue-ish coating while the effects change colours without the coating. The volcano ones are not AB.

@simpleandchic:  Sure. There's a link in my OP, but here's the thread where the finished pictures are.

And a picture for the hell of it.... :)

@kval885:  Thank you! I use GemTac glue and the Volcano shoes are actually one Swarovski crystal that changes colours called Volcano.

Made some more progress. Finished the inner section of the left shoe. Please forgive my chipped polish, I've been working on the shoes at the expense of my nails.

I love how you lined the seams and edges with the smaller size crystals! Totally should've done that with my shoes!

@CrispyRN:  Thanks! It was an experiment with these ones. I lined the opening of the cobalt ones with a three-deep 5 ss rhinestone border and then disregarded all of the seems. I think I like the way it's turning out with the borders.

I so want to do this! If you don't mind me asking, about how much in total did the crystals cost?

@CherryCola11:  I don't mind! I think the cobalt ones cost right about $400 for the crystals. I'm anticipating these to cost a bit more because there's more surface area (bigger/high heel, taller toe box). They don't have to cost that much.

Preciosa crystals are almost the same as Swarovski and cost a lot less so you could potentially save a lot by buying them instead. I wear a size 9 so someone with a smaller size would have less area to cover. I also used a huge size range of crystals from 5ss up to 20ss. If you stuck to larger crystals you would have to use less total and that would also keep the cost down.

I recently started my DIY Strass project with Meridian Blue crystal (see below) the color is great.

Question - in strassing the suede shoes, do you feel like the glue drys darker. I am using a syringe and paint brush to apply the glue in small sections, when filling in small spaces (with 7ss or 5ss) I just use the syringe. I feel like there is color difference when I look closely. Am I just being anal? Probably so...*laughs*

I finished the outside of the left shoe. I had to stop there for the night because I ran out of the smallest crystals. I ordered the rest of the crystals earlier this week which should be here tomorrow (I hope...). All I have left on the left shoe is the toe. The right shoe is still just the heel and the frame of crystals but I've made more progress on these than I'd ever thought possible in such a short time.

@Aure: im going to! Once I can afford the rhinestones, I am tackling this project. I've already shown it to my SO, and he thinks I'm crazy!

For now, I'm going to live vicariously through your shoes.
