The following is a post about my journey making a wedding cake stand. I could not find a stand that I liked, for under $300. I have a Hobby Lobby nearby and the internet readily available so I decided to take on the project, myself.
I started with a wall decal I found at Hobby Lobby. Half priced at $25. It is 16×16 in.
Then I bought sticky dots from save-on-crafts.com
And applied a lot of them.
Then I took the paper off the back of the double sided sticky dots.
Wrapped Diamond Mesh found on save-on-crafts.com around the top.
Wrapped Diamond Mesh around the bottom.
And finished it off with a thick piece of glass we had custom made to fit the stand at our local glass store. Here’s the end product! It is 8 inches tall, plus the glass top. I will be selling it once our wedding is over on June 9, 2012. Please let me know what you think 🙂 Also, please ignore the messy room. It’s my wedding/crafts room.

I’m not a fan of the “bling” look for my wedding, but this really inspires me as I could cover it in something not so shiny and do pretty much the same thing! It looks great!

My friends and I actually purchased our wedding cake stands from a woman who makes beautiful cake stands with removable cake skirts. Seems that most bakers only provide those boring looking plain cake rounds to display your cake…why spend so much money on a gorgeous cake to just put it on a dull piece of cardboard? You can buy the stand kit I think it’s called and it comes with a stand, a cake skirt and matching flower and ribbon for only $65!!! She has a good selection of fabric skirts and crystal ones too. The best thing about this cake stand is you can change the skirt over and over to match every event! This is the stand I purchased. Check her out on cakedress.com!
