Wilson2Bee:  I DIY’d ours completely.

I did pocket folds and I ordered a sample from a company, ripped it apart and used it as a template – they weren’t working quite right when I tried on my own.  Totally worth the $1.50!

I’m (hopefully) finishing up mine today, they were semi-DIY and the first tip I have is however long you think they’ll take, budget AT LEAST 3-4x that much time, plus some if you can.  I thought mine would take maybe 20 hours to complete, and here I am on day probably 10-11 of full-time work (6+ hours a day), and I only have 110 invitations to complete.

I custom designed my invitations and had them professionally printed (thermography), then mounted them to a gold backing and then to a pocketfold (I got my pocketfolds at cards and pockets, SO worth not DIY-ing those and they look gorgeous).  I also printed my inner and outer envelopes (and put our monogram on the back of the RSVP’s and outer envelopes) and lined all of them, as well as attached ribbons and brooches to the pocketfolds.  I also made custom wax-seals that I hand-painted (blue wax seals, I painted the monogram itself gold) and am attaching to the inner envelopes today and hopefully putting in the outer envelope, sealing, and putting postage on today as well (DONE!).

I didn’t play with wording very much since I love the professional and elegant look of simple invitations, but I did add my other “insert” cards all to one page and separated them with lines (3 sections, 1 for reception, 1 for welcome dinner, 1 for additional information/our website) so that I could also mount that information to the pocketfold.  My pocketfolds have two large pages as well as the pocket page, most only have one and the pocket so that was why I was able to do it this way.  I will probably make a post about my invitations once I get everything all done.

We wanted something simple, on kraft paper – wrapped with lace.

Oddly enough, when we looked on etsy, some of those were running $5/invite. What in the world?

And that price didn’t include any enclosure cards, or the lace bellybands.

So I made my own. They weren’t elaborate, but they fit our theme, and were budget friendly. I think I spent a total of $1.85 each with stamps.

Wilson2Bee: You may find something you like here (they are several styles that are free and customizable for colors): http://www.weddingchicks.com/category/wedding-chicks/diy-templates/wedding-templates-diy-templates-wedding-chicks/  I’m not totally computer literate, but perhaps you can use a program like Paint or something and use free images from Graphics Fairy.  If you send a couple of links of those you like best, I could check around, as there are tons of stuff to print on Graphics Fairy.  Also, are you planning to do pocket folds as well?  Or other matching items?

Wilson2Bee:  it was a varition of this free one, I used the same fonts and images, but I made the rest in paint [seriously, I suck at all other types of programs, but the paint worked well, LOL].

You can save money by buying paper and cutting it down to the size you need, but I just got all of mine at the correct sizes I needed from papersource.com – they come in packs of 25 for like 4 or 5 dollars, and envelopes come in packs of 10 for I think $4.25.
