Microsoft Publisher is a great tool and you it's free with a 30 day trial! You could use one of the shapes to make the leaves and then copy and paste, add names, group and then move them around the tree.
Oooh...I love it! I might have to steal that idea! You could also do it in Powerpoint -- just adjust the slide size to the size you want your poster to be. Everything will look teeny tiny as you make it and you'll have to zoom in to see details while you're working, but it's easier than it sounds. Message if you decide to go this route and can't figure it out -- I've done large posters for presentations in Powerpoint a couple times.
Oh my goodness! I have been trying to figure this out too. I just cannot get it to look right, some branches have too many leaves, some don't have enough... Please post pictures when you get it figured out.
So I started playing around with making the tree. I still have to add color and names to the tree. I used Paint.net to create the tree (it is a free image program) I used the line drawing tool (you can then click and drag the part of the line to become curves). The leaves are from a MS word clip art image.

Hi Ladies,
I am planning to make a wedding tree like I saw on etsy http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=17027912 and I have no idea where to even start. I thought it would be a good thing to have for my destination wedding, so that everyone knows how they are all connected. Has anyone completed or attempted this task?
