I say DIY-ish because I designed them but I’m having them made (they’re magnets), I just uploaded my design to the company’s website.
I’m going to place them in a black linen pocket card similar to a pocketfold invitation without the top flap (these: http://www.paperpresentation.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=PPN&Category_Code=POCKET_CARDS) and inside a linen white envelope with a black liner. I’m going to print the return address on the back flap of the envelope in the same font as the print on the save-the-dates.
I’m also going to attempt the fake calligraphy where you lightly print the address on the envelope then trace it, so we’ll see how that goes. If I fail miserably I’ll probably hire a calligrapher to do them, but hopefully I can just do them myself. Does anyone have experience doing this or tips?
The invitation suite will match the fonts and style (and monogram) as the save-the-dates but will be printed on linen paper and attached to black (again linen) cardstock with the same style inner and outer envelopes to hopefully give a cohesive look. I’ll make a separate post about those in a few months once they’re completed.
I was originally going to have simple letterpressed save-the-dates and invitation suite but they just looked too plain to me in person (I never ever thought that would happen, go figure) and I couldn’t find a design I really loved so I made my own, and I really wanted the save-the-dates to include a photo.
As for the photo below, TywinLannister and I just got back from Ireland and I wanted to have an enagement session while we were there. We’ve been engaged for a year but we’ve never had any kind of professional photos taken of us and I thought it would be fun to have a session aborad. We have our “real” engagement session with our wedding photographer in a few months that will be much more formal than these (FI will be in a suit, for example). The photographer we worked with was absolutely wonderful, especially because the trip itself was very last-minute and we hired him on such short notice. Luckily I threw my heels in my bag before we left! I didn’t love how I looked in most of the photos to be honest but the photographer did an amazing job, I can’t blame him for my “I’ve been awake for 36 hours” jetlagged eyes haha!
Please let me know what you think! I’m SO happy to have these done (other than the assembly, addressing, postage, etc), I’ve been stressing forever about what I was going to do for these.
I also wasn’t sure what section to put these in since they’re not really “paper” but aren’t 100% “DIY” either.
